Lighting for different times of day is essential. In this video we're lighting the same scene for daylight and for night, to see what changes.

You've managed to teach core concepts (spaces not faces), workflow (expose for practical light, then environment, then talent), technique (diffuse and flag off), and efficiency (cove light for daylight bounce and also for evening lighting). In 16 minutes I feel like I should be bringing a notebook. Well done, Brady!

Those scenes are beautiful! I love how day and night scenes evoke such different moods... I do love me some night scenes, especially. :D

Pausing at 13:06 to remember this textbook example of motivated lighting. Sweet.

Hey! I've seen Kevin on Aputures channel. I loved the way he used his lights to simulate a meteor crash in that one video! Also, I love how sublty you used these lights in the night scene to feel real and comfortable but still cinematic and magical!

You have really helped me up my lighting game, so thank you! I have 3 questions:
1) have you found a good case or system to travel with all that gear?
2) I film weddings and would like to light the bridal suite a little better. What do you feel like would be a simple and consistent solution to lighting a variety of spaces like that?
3) Do you have any tips for lighting placement when there are mirrors involved? When I try to do a far side key, you see the light in the shot.

Once I have started watching your videos ( a couple of weeks ago) I have learnt more than I did in the past couple of years 😂

Great video as always! One thing I notice though, is that a lot of cinematographers on YouTube seem to really speak about how hard light is ugly or we should avoid using it to light the subject. I really think this is all down to the look you want to achieve and actually hard light can look phenomenal- if you haven’t seen The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) this is a masterclass in hard light by Bruno Delbonnel
