Free Mortgage Payments for a Year... or More.

The new government mortgage grant program (HAF) can give certain homeowners a grant to pay their ongoing mortgage payments. States limits are between $25,000 to $80,000 in grants that you do not need to pay back. If you are struggling with your mortgage payments after forbearance you can apply for the Homeowner Assistance Fund and get multiple months of mortgage payments paid by the government. Attorney Diego G. Mendez, Esq. explains that the ongoing mortgage payment grant may also allow people who received a modified payment to apply for the grant, if they are still unable to afford the new modified payment. States are still formulating the rules, but the program will be available in most states in early 2022.

My forbearance plan ended September 30, and the HFA won't be available until early 2022. Will I become ineligible to apply for HFA if I have paid my mortgage in October?

As few as 20K homeowners will be helped in California. There are 9 million 1-unit homes in California. You'd have to be as lucky as a lottery winner to get assistance even if you qualify. This is going to be a ****show.

I'm still going through the housing crisis of 2008. Thanks to FHA forbearance I was able to take forbearance owing 80k and Wells Fargo told me no on phone but I filled out online and got forbearance and was able to stop the illegal foreclosure actions.
