I also wonder whether Kirbo was asking for help from the others, or just asking how much longer he had until the cake was ready.

It’s interesting that Kirby and the rest of the non-human characters clearly have some sort of fantasy vision of the universe, while Adeleine doesn’t. What is a fun playscape land for Kirby is a post-apocalyptic wasteland for her. I shudder to think about what she might be seeing when Kirby (even in his fantasy vision) sees a monster.
