A great realization for artists is that you can use the different methods whenever they work for you, and you don’t have to stick with just one, or master them all. It’s never wrong to just use the methods that work for you and ignore the others. Or mix and match them depending on what you’re drawing.

This is the advice I needed so badly.

I always find drawing Looney Tunes esque cartoon characters as easy as breathing but struggle a ton with human proportion.

I think this is the key, where I felt I had to follow very strict drawing advice with proportion that didn't work for me. Cartoons I already feel confident in and am not strict with my process, making my art flow way better in that sense.

I swear bro this is the only vid that helped me. I would look up numerous tutorials, try to learn a specific way to draw anatomy, fail, and then repeat the process. You showed me that i didnt need to follow any rules because im ultimately drawing for me. Drawing isnt supposed to be followed in a specific way, and i thank you so much for this. ❤

You are underrated. Most of my life I had neurology problems that prevented me from drawing even if I tried to start 10+ times but I overcame it with time. But unlucky to me I was also gifted with ADHD that was really exhausting me from picking element to start with, everything was too strict in my head and with too many variables to pick from. Now I’m turning 27 this year and I feel that I can finally start pursuit my dreams (it’s kinda late but I won’t turn my back) and this video really gave me a new sight and changed my thinking about learning this stuff. Nobody talks about those problems that beginner like me face at start. I’m really glad that you did share your experience, thank you ❤

I've wanted to learn how to draw anatomy for a while, but there are just so many methods and ways to do it that I get overwhelmed and I just don't draw at all. Great video! There are so many resources to learn these day, its easy to get lost in it all. I'm a bit older and been learning digital painting over the last year, my whole life my biggest hurdles when learning from instructors has been dealing with teachers "absolutes". Some times what they are saying makes sense, other times its just their way. You then see another instructor and they say the opposite.

You really touched on this in your video, having to sort out what works and makes sense to ME for ME.

With the amount of times I’ve said “screw it” to following the rules to do things the more correct way (*cough* studying *cough*) I’m surprised I haven’t done that with art yet 😅 I’m pretty sure it’s cause I care a lot more and really want to make sure I’m doing the right thing with a method that’s obviously worked for people, even if I didn’t like it that much, thinking at least following something would help me learn faster.

its true that its important to not be constrained to a method, but doing what feels right isnt really that easy, either. a "feeling" for art is something that only develops with experience. to a beginner, all methods would feel more or less the same. for example, just using the shapes that are beautiful is advice that is more useful for someone who has some experience with shape design

i think the advice in the video is good, but its more useful to someone with more intermediate experience with art, and not someone just starting anatomy

i hope this doesnt sound negative. i really like your video about lineart because the advice is really specific and easy to apply
