The slow mo is so good to learn from.
Record yourself, play it back in slow motion and compare it to this, best advice I can think of. Thanks Gwen 👌

Great job on this video tutorial! I went and tried these techniques right away and it really changed how I think about paddle ups. I am just a beginner but I’m able to focus on the foil and generate forward thrust. Amazing! I used 10% paddle to adjust my balance and direction only. Made good progress and felt the foil start to work. Long way to go but this video made a BIG difference!!

Awesome. Thank you for doing this video. I'm coming from a paddling background: double blade in surfskis, singleblade in racing canoes and outrigger canoe, a little dragon boat, but minimal with standup paddle board. Your A stroke looks really good.
I've discovered foiling a couple of months ago with a Lift efoil lesson. Now I'm obsessed, thanks to all the video content on your channel. I would like to come to Stuart, FL for a lesson.

Raising the top paddle hand high and vigorously increases the lift too if timing is right. Thanks guys. I have much to improve myself and this video is extremely helpful!

Very Interesting, thank you very much for this detailed paddle up description and for your thoughts. Coming from a paddling (non-pumping) background, I managed to get the board out of the water this summer, but now I need to put more focus on better pumping, as I am not moving forward yet without the support from the paddle (just as you mentioned within your vid). Plus, I also need to focus to get the nose down again in order not to paddle uphill & stall. So your tips are really helping! If I may, just one paddle advice from my side: just try if it might help your performance if you gain slightly more reach (=putting the paddle into the water even more towards the nose) and pull the paddle out when it has reached you front foot. This might help keeping your course straight and gaining slightly more lift.

Great summary of FWSUPF. Would love to see above Drone POV as well.
Another topic for SUPF. SUPF Strokes ie. Bracing, Offside, Pivot turn, etc.

I really like how you separated the pumping and paddling processes. The slow motion really helps too. The test of pumping without a paddle is key for me and I can't figure out how to pump. Have you posted a slow motion video of how to start pumping without a paddle? Regards

Hi Gwen.
Great video.
What about mast location in the boxes (forward - backward) ?
What about feet location ont he mast, forward the mast ?
And last he shorter the mast, the better ?
Thanks .

Hi,
I'm 1, 90m tall (6, 23ft), weight just below 90kg (198lbs).

Doing wing foiling since 6 months. Using a Fanatic Sky 6, 3 and a Fanatic Aero Lift 2400. The gear feels quite too big today.

As we don’t have wind every week here: Just started with Foil Pumping with a Slingshot Puddle Pumper and I’m on the level, that I can comfortably jump on the board, glide and dive into the water balanced and keep the board under feet below the water surface (without a pump).

My problem at the moment is that I don’t have good access to a dock and would rather try to continue my learning journey with a paddle so that I can learn where ever I want.

Now I don’t know what to buy / do next. I’d love to have a board which would allow for flat water paddle up matching my skill level (it’s OK for me to be set back and learn more balancing etc.) and also be usable for light wind winging.

I think I'd prefer an allround solution at the moment as I'm quite sure that my preferences will change over the next 1 or 2 years and then I wouldn't need to change 2 boards ... Best would be of course to buy a board now which is best in wing or paddle up and could be staying in my gear for one of these disciplines.

For light wind winging I’m considering buying a Ginxu Super K 92 Liters or 104 Liters. But I’m also open to buy another board f.e. the Ginxu Dragonfly 2. Or maybe this AFS Blackbird?

What would you suggest in my situation? Board/Size/Liters?

Many thanks for your help :-)

Your paddle up technique reminds me of trying to oli a skateboard. Or at least the leg movement.

Hi Gwen thanks for these videos. I have been trying to figure out the best stance to accomplish this and was convinced I needed to switch to goofy, which I can now do for sup as good as regular. But after watching this and other videos I am not sure if my dominant leg is better as front or as rear. Can you please say if your dominant leg (one you would use to kick a football) is your back leg or front leg? Thank you👍
