I've literally never heard this. They're popular to eat all over Europe. I worked in a seafood dept in Canada and we always sold them too

I'm German and we eat them, the Danes and Norwegian eat them, too.

Edit: Whole Europe eats them it seems.

In the Netherlands we eat a lot of smoked mackerel and grilled mackerel, it’s delicious! Never knew it was seen as a lesser fish in other countries

Actually it is a very common in Europe, in Northen Italy if u buy that fish already filleted (no bones, no head just the fillet) the price will be 12 euro per kilo in almost every fishmongers shop I have seen.
Here people have overfished mackerels for many years. Nowdays the fish we get on the boat on our trips are not big as the ones you caught in the videos.

You’ve not had mackerel until you’ve smoked them; you only need salt and pepper before putting them in smoker. The Asians weren’t wrong.

We love Mackerel in England. Such good memories catching these in Cornwall as a kid... What a tasty fatty fish! My favourite quick bulking/gym snack is a tin of them on rice with soy sauce, amazing!!!
