There's a couple of phrases like in arabic too.
Its usually a preface when you're giving a negative answer or when you're telling them you're not qualified to answer the question.

Alot of people lie because they hate saying "i don't know". Its not a sinister reason, just low self esteem.

Like around here people often say “No Problem” when asked a question or after having done a favour and being thanked. Most people know it just means “You’re welcome, ” but now and then someone will still look slightly affronted and say, “Why would it have been a problem?” 😂

I did this once for real. A woman friend asked me how she looked in her new dress. I asked, " You want me to tell you the truth or lie ? ". She said, " Lie ". I then said, "You look good in that dress." Oddly, she seemed happy about that.
