I was so scared to get rid of things in the beginning because "what if" but after I started making space to breathe I realized I had very little that I valued over that calm space. After bags and piles and countless trips to goodwill I can barely remember what was in any of those decluttering piles. I shutter when I see those pictures of before the purges and I realize I was drowning in things that held so much guilt and clutter in my mind always

"Just remind yourself that you have paid enough."... enough of your money, enough of your time, enough of your space, enough of your emotions by keeping something you don't need, want or love.
This thought really got to me.

It really struck me when you said that stuff and things don't have hands. They are not holding onto us. We are the ones with the tight grip. Exactly!

*more stuff = more stress*
I’m trying to live in peace. Anything that doesn’t feed that peace, has got to go ✨👋🏼

Dump the guilt and Learn to uncommit resonated with me.

What has been the most eye opening for me is that the more I let go, the easier it becomes and the more things I find that I really don't need.

"Declutter as you live" - needed this

I like that "declutter as you go"! You're the first minimalist that I've heard suggest that. So much less intimidating to get you started on the right path than cleaning out your whole house at once.

the part that resonated the most with me was "If something does not add value to your life, then don't give it the privilege of entering your life". I think this isn't just true of stuff and things, but the people we hang out with and activities we participate in too. Just as you said in your point about "dump the guilt", the time and energy that we choose to give is valuable and should be applying this to all aspects of life, not just physical stuff.

Great video~!

I’m so overwhelmed. Years of overspending on things I didn’t need has built up such clutter in my mind and living space. This motivates me to own less, but it will be a lot of work to get rid of things and organize…

This has hit home big time. Letting go of the burden of carrying all my family’s pictures, heirlooms. Finding what is most important and letting go of the rest is so freeing! Thank you!

Ronald, it's self-disciplined, self-controlled, and thoughtful adults, such as you, that fill me with hope for the future of civilization.

Sitting here at 4:30 am and you have opened my eyes. You have given a name to so many of my excuses.
The guilt has been my strongest prisoner. I am holding on to things because I paid so much for them and friends and family tell me that I would be crazy to let them go. At least once a week, I look at my unloved and unnecessary pieces of furniture and realize that I do not love, need, or want them. I keep telling myself that I cannot just give them away for free. Your calm, yet power packed advice is just what I needed to hear. This helped me to realize that I am still paying for them. My mind is made up. I don't have to ask permission. I am the owner. I will be donating all of these things to a family that needs them. Just the thought of this makes me feel free.
I am now a subscriber and I am going to share you with all of my family and friends.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

What spoke to me is - stop holding on to something you paid a lot for because by holding on to it I am continuing to pay for it.

Brilliant, Ronald! Never heard it explained the way you did in your third point. Something clicked with me when you said you’re still paying for unused items with your time, space and emotions. Thank you for this thought-provoking video

I live with the very popular thought of “does it bring you joy? does it make you happy?” and the problem is, pretty much all of my stuff does. I love videos like these bc they help me get rid of what I really don’t want/need anymore but with what’s left over I’m still considered a maximalist. I’ve just learned to accept it and be conscious in it all
