I love this idea but think I may try them using 2 different seasonal fabrics, like a winter on one side and a spring or summer fabric on the other. This would make the placemats much more useable during the year.

Jen remember that the clear side of the wonder clips is the down side when using. Getting the form inside of the placemat reminds me of putting on compression socks. I would leave the the trimming of the shape until after sewing so you can make sure that you leave a good 1/2” since the form fits so snug inside in order to make sure that there is no chance of the seams tearing and you can do a little clipping on the curve area so it lies flat., so it might be a good idea to reduce your stitch length also. Another tip would be to steam press the fabric before turning inside out for that will also add in getting that outer seam to lye flat. As soon as I saw the finished placemats in the beginning, I thought it would look really nice to use a piping around the outer edge. Use your double needle for the top stitching for then you can get really close to edge but then have another edge stitching. Use a coordinating bobbin thread and two different coordinating thread on top.

I have had these placemat forms forever and have "feared" doing them. Thank You! I've also seen a tutorial on folding this shape placemat into a "box" / small bin. I have one of these forms without fabric on it, already held in shape with big clips, the sides are about 3" high folded up with corners secured. I was unsure about sewing the corners of this bosal material, but after watching you I see its easy! Just didn't want to break or gum up a needle! Thank You!!

These are so nice and no binding!! yay, binding is the bane of my life. If I have to do it I will but I'm never impressed with my work so these are looking pretty good. I live in Australia so unless a patchwork company brings them over I might just have to use ordinary bosal.
