This is the original K-On! Linda Linda Linda is a 2005 Japanese film directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita. When a falling out of their original band occurs, the remaining three girls recruit a shy Korean exchange student as their lead singer for a last minute effort to perform at the culture festival. What ensues is a passional tale of adolescence, friendship and perseverance as they work hard to practice and prepare a cover of The Blue Hearts' iconic punk rock song, "Linda Linda." Navigating their insecurities, personal issues, and differences, they develop a deep connection through music. Linda Linda Linda is gentle, understated, and quietly humorous film, focusing on the simple, yet meaningful experiences of youth.

This movie left me feeling nostalgic, and I fell in love with all of the girls and their performances. I ended up buying the original Japanese release, as well as the subbed version, and I don't regret buying it twice. Also, Bae Doona rocks my world.

Great vid 👍. Even as a middle aged man with no knowledge of what K-On is, I thought this film was magical and it took me back to school days. Both this and Swing Girls were in my list of favourite films I discovered in 2024.

I have often thought it was a lead in for what became the slice of school life anime. Did you know that in Kyoto Animations, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya the episode "love alive" played homage to this movie?
