Get info from Spinner in JavaFX

If I type anything at all into the field regardless of it being valid or not it doesn't reflect the change in the button press. Seems the value doesn't actually update until you use the arrows

I have JDK 8u50 and i can't use javafx spinner .. why ??

Thanks for this wonderful tutorial. My checkboxes work great! But now I'm trying to get the spinner to work. I can't seem to get the values into the database!
