Darin Smith from DWS Classics walks us through the history of the Ford Falcon.

So, if you want to know what yesterdays compact cars looked like.
Hey, look no further than the little Ford Falcon.
It’s a grandma’s car, the lowly little Falcon, you know?
But, the Falcon’s are actually really cool cars.
They were mind blowing at the time.
Everybody said, “My gosh, look at that good looking car”.
So the ’64, was really quite the head turner. The ’65, pretty much the same.
That was the pinnacle years for these little Falcons.
The ’64 Falcon Futura, was the top of the line back then.
The ’64 Sprint, well, that was your SS, so to speak, if you had a Chevrolet.
With this compact little car, what you could do is, throw yourself in Coyote motors.
They got a 351 Windsor now that, well, they even bore and stroke ‘em to 427’s.
And guys are shoehorning them into these little Falcons.
A small package, a hot small block.
Whatever you can get in here that’s making big power,
yeah, you’re gonna have something that’s going real fast.
And if you’re going real fast in a small little car like this,
Hey, the guy in the big car with the same horsepower, is gonna lose to you.
So, I like small compact little cars. And I have a soft spot for the Falcons.

I had a ‘65 Falcon Futura coupe with a 289 engine in it. That little car could scoot and was a lot of fun to drive!

My first car at the age of 17 in 1980 was a ‘65 Ford Falcon Futura hard top with a 289 engine. I had duel exhaust and headers on the car which made it sound really good! That car was pretty fast off the line and could hold its own with most any car with a small block V8! I really miss my Falcon and plan on purchasing another one in the near future!

I beg to differ on Grandma's car, especially here in Australia ....Check out what we did with the Falcon over 56 years between 1960 to 2016 .. We really nailed it . It became an Aussie icon and it left the scene after selling nearly 4 million of them . I only wish America had of seen them return to their original home ..I own two now and have had four or five others over my 42 years of driving ...Wouldn't want anything else although I'd never say no to a Mustang perhaps ...I like your '64 very much ...Check out the Australian Ford Falcon, especially the 1967 onwards ones..1967 was the first GT, 1969/70/71 are pretty special too especially the legendary Phase lll XY GTHO and from 1972 XA models the Falcon was a totally Australian design after it was discontinued in the USA from 1970/71. So many special cars bearing the Falcon nameplate right til the very last one built on October 7th 2016 with the last FGX XR6 coming off the assembly line...
