A lot I could say. I’ve learned this solo, got the fingering down, the notes, etc etc… But getting it to swing like Kelly or even just like it is super hard for me. Great breakdown though and I found every detailed aspect of it incredibly useful and insightful. So thanks gentlemen, very much appreciated.

Nice way to highlight one of the golden moments in the repertoire of jazz recordings by way of informal discussion and impromptu commentary. Often it’s the little spontaneous anecdotes that provide key insights that become permanent satellites to our understanding.

Great point you make about most phrases leading to the 1st beat; the 1. You said it makes everything stronger, makes the band stronger. It's such a simple but brilliant idea. I genuinely don't know if Miles and Co thought of it like that(well maybe not consciously) and I guess it's too late to ask Miles- but for me it is something I will be aware of and try with my bands. Please do more of these!

In Argentina, what the drummer did with the hi hat before the solo started, we said "soplido", like blowing air in front of you.

That high hat from Jimmy Cobb, I believe, is a nod to Philly Joe Jones. Miles loved that lead in when Philly Joe was his drummer.

What do you mean, every phrase starts on „one“ of a four bar section? Maybe I misunderstood you. As I would describe it many phrases ( but not all) lead into a „one“ (and continue) but don’t start on „one“. Just take the first few bars...
