For most of human existence, people lived in a somewhat similar fashion. Everything that has been produced, from food and raw materials to clothing and other finished products, has been done either solely by hand or with some help of animal power. This was the same across the eras and throughout the world, no matter how advanced or backward the various civilizations were. Yet our lives today couldn’t be more different. Most of our products are made with machines and mechanical power, allowing for greater productivity and a higher quality of life in general. That advance was made possible by what we today call the Industrial Revolution. Its start in the mid-18th century signalized a slow but unwavering transformation from a handmade manufacturing civilization to a machine-powered industrial society.

Why do you add distracting red and blue lights around the edges? As if it wasn't bad enough, they started GROWING, and soon the entire screen was covered up and I was left with a headache.

In Britain from 1800 to1900.
20, 000 Waterwheels decreased in number.
Windmills decreased in number.
The Englishman Thomas Newcomen's 1, 500 Atmospheric Pumps disappeared.
The Scotsman James Watt's 500 Steam Engines and their descendants increased in number to 10, 000, 000 !!!
To every SINGLE Waterwheel in 1800 we could now add 500 James Watt type Steam Engines and their descendants in 1900 !!!
The Power output of the whole country increased by 500 times, and so, Production capacity !!!
In one human lifetime.
And you don't need a flowing river of water for each one either!
So they could be sited anywhere, even on the Sea, where even a Water-Wheel can't go.This WAS the Industrial Revolution, it was a Power Revolution and it was kicked off by only one single Invention, James Watt's Invention of the world's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered Engine in Scotland.
It was nothing to do with efficiency, it was all due to the dumping of Calley, Savery, Newcomen, and Smeaton's Atmospheric Power and Arkwright's Water-Power for Watt's Steam Power. Now we could have 2 million more Factories, Steamships, Locomotives and whatever else we needed Power for.
Take away James Watt's Steam Power and you don't get an Industrial Revolution. It took 3000 years to get to 20, 000 Waterwheels, then 100 years to get an additional 10, 000, 000 Steam Engines. That WAS the Industrial Revolution.

This is only true for the upper classes and to a lesser degree the middle classes.

It's not complicated at all. The Industrial Revolution was the change from 20, 000 Waterwheels to 20, 000 Waterwheels +10, 000, 000 James Watt type Steam Powered Engines in only 100 years.
For every SINGLE Waterwheel in 1800 we now had 500 Steam Powered Engines in 1900!
A 500 times increase in the whole country's Power Output !!!

The industrial revolution improved the quality of life 10 fold. People are quick to jump to the negatives of the industrial revolution. Though if the industrial revolution didn’t happen, then the device they complain on 24/7 would not have existed. 🤔Quit being sheep and wake up people! Capitalism, the free market and the industrial revolution was the best thing to ever happen to humanity.

Also liberals are so hypocritical, Capitalism was a central component of classical liberalism in the societies of the Industrial Revolution. Classical liberalism was an ideology that was based on economic individualism and the principles of: economic freedom, private ownership, competition, self-interest and self-reliance.

I wish we still had those type of democrats!

This is a very informative and interesting video on human civilization and Industrial Revolution. A lot of helpful information was presented but how it affect human society and the quality of life is unclear. There were conclusions supporting and denouncing industrialization. These conclusions were drawn with little or no supporting evidence. What we do know is what we see in the mid-20th century and early 21st century (today). The countries that are truly industrialized like the US, Western Europe, Japan, ... have a higher standard of living for its people on average. Every country has wealthy people and poor people. But overall the industrialized countries are better off. You have to decide what is better. Do you remain pre-industrial and agrarian like Communist China, India, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, ...? Or do you industrialize like the US, Germany, Japan, England, ...? If you cannot tell the difference then you cannot tell what is real and what is fake.

Seven minutes in and haven't heard anything novel. I guess this is good for kids. The narrator's voice is driving me crazy though. I think I'll stop here.
