There’s new research on how we might help kids with dangerous peanut allergies. It’s one of the most common food based allergies, affecting over 1.2 million children just in the US alone! But now, a skin patch that provides immunotherapy for peanut allergies has shown good results in desensitizing toddlers in a clinical trial. Here's what's happening...

I’m in my early twenties, have just started developing an allergy to peanuts after loving Reese’s and Thai food for many years. So this is awesome I might have to look into this more

A family friend is DEATHLY allergic to peanuts and has to be super careful all the time. Hope this technology may one day make it to the mainstream.

my sister went through a clinic where they just slowly fed her peanuts and increased the amount each time, and now she’s good to have them whenever

This sounds great as a person with an extreme allergy to peanuts. While I won’t necessarily be able to eat peanuts without an allergic reaction, at least there hopefully won’t be the risk of death which I currently have if I’d eat peanuts and wouldn’t treat the allergic reaction.

As an Indian, I've never met someone with peanut allergy in my life, whenever I hear someone talking about peanut allergy
I am just like who can be allergic to peanuts, I love them ❤.

I don’t know about this study but research in this topic has been going on for decades.

As mentioned, this would not remove the allergy but will desensitize it to a certain extent. Something that was deadly will be a serious inconvenience.

That’s a massive improvement over something people died from.

These people will still not enjoy a PB&J sandwich like we do but at the very least won’t die from it.

Last time I checked. I’m not sure if this treatment leads to permanent desensitization or if they need to do this regularly.

this is awesome! one of my classmates in kindergarten was (literally) deathly allergic to peanuts, so when i had to bring store bought treats for special occasions my mom would help me read the fine print of the labels to make sure the products weren’t made in a factory with peanuts…
it would take us a long time to find something safe.😅 but i felt bad because other kids didn’t do the same & he’d be left out of eating overly-processed (and delicious) cookies. hopefully one day, every kid can enjoy cookies that may have trace amounts of peanut!

It is incredible what the brains of some folks can do now !! I'm sure most of us with severe allergies have wished there was a way to fix it! I wonder how well it would work on adults as the body is majority developed would it way more difficult as a way lower dose be needed? I'm allergic to penicillin so I wonder how it might work to solve medication allergies or things like grass and ladybugs? So so cool

This is why those moms preventing their kids from touching any germs are absolutely wrecking their child’s immune system, you gotta introduce them to dirt and shellfish 😂

I know a couple who lost their 15 year old son because someone threw cheese at him during school break. Hard to imagine and truly heartbreaking

My dad is deathly allergic to peanuts and we've had some close calls but haven't had an incident in a long time. This would be super cool for him. I think getting his milk, eggs, beans, or shellfish allergies cured would be more useful. About 10 years ago he lost his allergy to wheat which helped make home cooking and eating out much easier.

I used to have a fatal peanut allergy as a kid. I went through so many years of constant shots and testing to finally get rid of it. I'm so happy that kids today don't ever have to go through what I had to go through, not even 10 years ago. 💖💕
