And here it is 12 years later I'm still using my Asus P5K Premium Motherboard CPU Q9650 and 8GB of Ram.

@mrbit10
Fair enough, but wouldn't your Mac Pro be more suitable for programming anyway. Or are you just doing this as a hobbyist build?

There is nothing wrong with the Core 2 Quad. I used a Yorkfield to own Applesoldier and Macward66. They may not have the performance of an i7 but overall they still kick ass.

I am not a big fan of Asus motherboards but that fan attachment for the heat sink is a smart idea. The motherboard doesnt seem to have Japanese capacitors on the website so I think the motherboard wont last that long. :(

any idea were can i get a cooler(the same one you have) for the cooling system on the motherboard?

i have this motherboard ready to install, to my old comuter, but i don't know if my cpu is compatible with it, i will probably sound stupid, but i have only just got in to computers and i'm still learning, unfortunately there is no news on this whatsoever, so that doesn't help, is an amd athlon 64 x2 4000+ compatible with this, i would know if amd had actually remembered about this processor when they made there terribly made compatibility site for processors and motherboards, please help

@ljscott1990 well life gets in the way sometimes. The rig is for programming, it does not really need all that much power.

@codebean it is a decent old system. it replaced my 1999 system with old .net installations. not a new system lol

@mrbit10 Yeah despite what ppl are saying I actually think that the old core 2 quad's are a decent chip, especially when oced you'd get close to the performance of an i5 750. Not that you probably need that much performance anyway.

@ljscott1990 well i needed to replace my older windows machine for legacy .net apps that i have vs my other windows machine running vs10

@Atheismrulez I suppose if he paid money for it, and wants a system now while he's got time then why not use the components? Depends on use planned aswell

Looks like a decent new old system to build. Or is that old new system?LOL!

@kevatcrewe

I did. Still don't understand why you would. He'd be better selling it all and getting a more recent and faster Core i3 2100 or Phenom II X4 system.

@Atheismrulez Did you actually watch the video?

"New PC..." "...LGA 775... Q6600".

Huh? LGA 775 is pretty much a dead socket. Why would you make a PC based on it?

Pretty stupid buying parts when you know you don't have time to build it.
I honestly wouldn't even use it now, I'd just sell it on ebay and build something new.
