It's truly incredible how something so simple can make such a difference, those little details are the ones that give you more independence and makes you feel good, thanks sam.

AWESOME! Just showed my mum this trick too; she's fully sighted still but finding small stuff on the floor can be challenging even for her. :)

I’m not visually impaired, but I have used that technique for years to find items that have rolled, bounced, or whatever under furniture. Works great.

This is a great tip. It would not work for me as my eyesight is far too bad. But I cannot wait to tell my husband about it. He is a mechanic and has those magnetic trays, but a lot of the time, he will drop some thing and does not have the trays handy or forgot to use them. This trick will work awesome for him.

Very awesome trick! For the longest time I would Point The Flash laid down. I'm going to try to this from now on! Thanks a lot Sam!

Great idea and demo, Sam, for finding small dropped items -- after the fact. But for those of us with multiple disabilities, blindness/low viz being only one of them, my getting down on the floor with never any help could mean my slow death [ask me how I know], and no, a medical alert necklace/button is not an option. Well-meaning first responders could easily cause my death, even giving an epi-pen. One well-meaning person as recently as yesterday, who does not know me or anything about MCS at all, typically suggested I wear a metal bracelet with a single alert. I'd need an engraved full body suit of armor with instructions for the special-needs dos and don'ts, but "ain't nobody got time to read all that [and they don't].

Isn't prevention an even better situation if possible? For reducing the chance of dropped pills, take the tip from pharmacists and ahead of time, keep a small tray with short sides [such as a small cake pan or even a just-larger bowl to catch any oops, by placing the pill container [or container of snacks] inside the tray or bowl so it keeps any drops right there on the counter top, or in the lap. Same idea for any other fumbly small parts [bolts, nails, screws], is to work with them on top of the table or counter top by first placing them onto a small hand/dish towel that helps to keep them corralled, and from bouncing to the floor. Wasn't it Benjamin Franklin who wisely said something about prevention? Seems only the seasoned mechanic has a metal or magnetized bowl near where he works to place all those pesky tiny metal pieces that fall and roll away under the vehicle that are needed for reassembly. Haha

Hi Sam, I've used that technique for years after dad showed it to me when I was a child in the '50s and now every more useful because of my myopic macular degeneration. Another useful video from the Blind Life.

Thank you Sam for another practical and helpful video. My compliments to whoever cleaned the floor before shooting it! Just last weekend I lost a teeny tiny black screw (1/16") on the same floor. And while using the light technique I got a good look at my floor and it scared me :-). I never found the screw even after sweeping that floor! A friend suggested using a big magnet since it's metal and most floor debris isn't. Thanks again!

Sam I like that idea about the flashlight I'll have to get me one usually when I drop a pill on the kitchen floor I usually get on my hands and knees and my husband just tells me to Braille the floor and you'll find it

That’s a good tip! I’m always dropping things then can’t see them once they’re on the floor. I’ll try this next time. 👍🏼

Coffee beans on my wooden floor, my nemesis.
I change my angle to play the bean off the reflective floor

Thank you. I use my iPhone camera and magnify. Doesn’t always work but witty this method.

I’m glad that I don’t believe in the five second rule because it takes so much longer than that to find things. LOL

Thats a lot cleaner than sweeping hands over the floor, which is what I do if I hear the direction something dropped. I also use the magnifier / camera on my phone & have asked a friend to help me find medication I'd dropped while on the phone to her, lol. Or I watch to see where my cat dives for and intercept her.
