Όπως ανέφερε ο Σύρος πρόεδρος, στη στρατιωτική διαμάχη της Αρμενίας με το Αζερμπαϊτζάν, που έχει ξεκινήσει από τις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου, εμπλέκονται και ένοπλοι από τη Συρία, που έχουν αναπτυχθεί στην περιοχή των συγκρούσεων και μάλιστα είπε συγκεκριμένα ότι: "Η Δαμασκός μπορεί να το επιβεβαιώσει αυτό".
Γαλλία, Ρωσία και Ιράν έχουν ήδη δηλώσει ότι η Τουρκία στέλνει Σύρους μισθοφόρους για να λάβουν μέρος σε αυτή τη στρατιωτική σύγκρουση, στο πλευρό του Αζερμπαϊτζάν, αλλά αυτό μέχρι στιγμής το αρνούνται η Τουρκία και το Αζερμπαϊτζάν.
