You 100% need fluoride in toothpaste and water with the modern western diet. Full stop. My Dad is a dentist, and we've had many long discussions about it. He says it's night and day between the patients that say they use fluoride free toothpaste vs fluoride. It's also naturally occurring in our environment, that's how our ancestors had less tooth decay. No processed foods and they had fluoride in their drinking water. You would have to eat your toothpaste every day for years, to ever get close to the hazardous limit.

I'm a library professional who works in consumer health information and sites like this make me sick. Health info literacy is hard enough when places like this AREN'T rewriting science.

Also, re: 8lbs of strawberries on average. One regular sized container is a pound, so eating ~10 will get you to 8lb. Personally, I can and occasionally do eat all of those strawberries in 1-2 sittings, so I'm actually shocked the amount is so low.

To add to the conversation on why animal models are problematic to compare to humans, another major factor is that the animal models used are often extremely inbred, to the point where the genetic difference between all individuals in that breed are like fraternal twin siblings. If even that much. They are also raised in lab or hospital type sterile settings for generations. Often fed a diet of autoclaved or irradiated food. So, you can imagine how incredibly different the microbiomes in their guts and on their skin compared to even normal versions of the same species from the wild. This can wreck results because drug interactions can include individual reactions based on genetic factors, which are largely eliminated in the models, or interactions not just with the host cells but between the drug, the host and all the critters in-between, which the models also generally lack.
