The People's Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) (Arabic: الحشد الشعبي‎‎ Al-Hashd Al-Sha'abi), consists of 40 militias, which are mainly Shia Muslim groups, Sunni Muslim, Christian, and Yazidi groups as well. The PMF were formed by the Iraqi government on 15 June 2014 after the Grand Leader' Ali al-Sistani's fatwa on "Sufficiency Jihad" on 13 June. The obligation were to save the country from ISIS that have made genocide against the nation and destroyed historical treasures and historical holy places. They listened to the caller to protect the civilians against the western backed rebels that later became known as ISIS and al-Qaeda.
