I remember over a decade ago my late friend, Thomas designing the masters for the 1701-A. It was so frustrating for him to design the mounting points for the pylons to the secondary hull, but I think he did a masterful job. I have a pile of kits of this ship, waiting to be built as the original and refit and plenty of aftermarket add-ons to go with it. Truly a gorgeous design.

Thomas passed away about seven years ago, and his contributions to modeling have made the hobby so much more enjoyable. He also did retooling on the Revell Voyager, masters construction on the NX-01, and designed decals for many kits—including providing a number of decals to Paramount to turn the Excelsior into a variety of other starships.

Totally agree about the Ent-D. I've seen people do amazing things with that old kit, but it still really deserves to be updated and done in a larger scale, and I'm holding out hope that R2 will eventually release that 1/1000 version they've hinted at.

You really, REALLY, must be commended, just for the dedication that you put into 'illuminating' all of the models that you presented in your list!

A very interesting watch. Thank you. I think though that you have missed a trick - my favourite Star Trek kit is the AMT 1/350 Klingon Bird of Prey.
The kit is fairly basic, and not without it's faults BUT she's a great ship design, in a great scale and the funnest paint and weathering job you'll have with your trousers on.

You completely sold me on the Discovery Enterprise. I'm glad I stuck out the video. Thank you!

I haven't built the majority of the models on your list...But I agree with the ranking of the ones I have. My top three..the Galileo shuttle...great kit and wonderfully made...the K'tinga, which I spent a good two months on, bought the masking kit, all the paints I custom mixed to proper shades, and it turned out just beautiful. And I agree with the #1. I built this one also stock, with the aztec decals and lighting. Turned out just fantastic. But...I'm surprised you did not at least give an honorable mention to the original AMT TOS Enterprise kit. I have a couple of those, and have built several over the decades including the first production run of it in the 60's.

Totally agree that scale makes a huge difference. I wish 1/350 and 1/1000 were standards for ships of the line. Even 1.2500 would be good if ALL of the ships came in this scale.

Upvote and comment just for the rant on the Enterprise D. I want a new 1/1000 or similar kit very much. Nice video.

🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done indeed and very nicely informatively explained in every way and detail provided and right to the point indeed, And also just to let you know the 1/2500 scale by Round2 of the Discovery Enterprise for what you can get for under $30. Dollars already comes with all the decals including the Aztec decals with in the kit it self. Unlike all the other kits were you have to purchase the Aztec decals separately at almost the same price as the kit itself depending on the scale...

Interesting review of models. I do wonder why you weren't mentioning who the manufacturers were. Perhaps you could update the description with a list of the 20, including scale, manufacturer, etc. One kit you didn't mention, which I think should absolutely be listed here is from DeBoer Hulls. They have an Enterprise A which is, I believe, 1:250 scale (46" long) and is an absolute marvel of engineering. It's very pricey, and the builder will have to be resourceful to finish it off as it should be, but what they provide is as good as it gets.

That 1/350th Ktinga got me back into modeling! I'd spent so long as a teenager trying to figure out the 1701D and 1701A models with lighting and accuracy...it'd put me off for a long time.

some of these take me back, I did a few models when I was a kid. I'm not surprised that #1 is a 1701 of that size. When I first saw the SNW version I was thinking how I'd love a model of that.

The descriptions your giving these models are giving me member berries. I agree. Everything your saying went through my mind when building them as wel!l. Round two are making improvements which shows up the deficiencies even more. All I can say is thank god for green strawberry and pargrafix photoetch.

I'm waiting for the new release of the 1/537 reliant. Hopefully they will have fixed the issues with the top roll bar.
