I pretty much use just a Benchmade Bushcrafter and old Timer sharp fingers for everything I do. I keep the sharpfingers in glove boxes, black powder bag and back packs. The Bushcrafter is still sharp after cleaning two deer. I have no doubts it will get through an Elk without dulling. I cant say that with other knives I have used on Elk. I always carried two hunting knives for hunting so I don't have to stop and sharpen in the middle of processing a kill. The nutty crafters complain about hot spots in the hand while using the Bushcrafter and that stainless steel is not what the pioneers used but I don't care. I have never had any discomfort using the knife and the pioneers would have been glad to get a knife that doesn't rust. They didn't have the special coatings either but the nut crafters don't mention that.
