Was learning this song some years ago when my 18 y.o. daughter's new 18 y.o. boyfriend came to visit and meet her parents for the first time. He asked if he could see my guitar, which was on it's stand at the time - I said sure. Strummed it once and started playing this very song...alot smoother than I could, mind you.

"Ok you can date my daughter."

The following Christmas he gave me his Epiphone LPS. I let him continue to date her.

They broke up after three or four years and have recently begun talking again...I'm waiting to hear what's in his inventory nowadays before I offer an opinion...😎

In all seriousness though - I'd like to see them together again. He's still family.

Dear James. No idea if you still monitor this but hope you are well. Retired a few years ago, always been a big music fan and been learning guitar thanks to guys and gals like yourself. Really, not personally interested in being a rock star. Just around the many campfires, family & friends. First thing I discovered is the many ways of making the same or similar sounds from the same instrument.
I have adopted many of your approaches. It’s helped me to sound pretty good.
This summer, my first great grandchild will join the campfire sing a long. Only been about 18 months learning so this is a stretch but I am excited to try.
One of the most memorable songs from one of the most gifted musicians and you taught it wonderfully.
Thank you, Sir James.
You are certainly a scholar and a gentleman.
Peace be with you.

I’m a pretty good player now after a little over 10 years playing. I’ve stopped watching anyone else’s guitar instruction videos besides this guy, whoever he is. Thanks for all your efforts.

Has to be 1 of my favourite openings to play on a guitar, I can't think of any other chord that captures the mood so much, I love the anticipation throughout the song, stunning 👌✌️

Learning songs by ear is JJ's superpower.

That "Unledded" version of this song is one of the best things I've ever seen on YouTube...absolute magic.

Yeah... This what it's about JJ. A truly amazing piece of work in this this song. I learned to play this a few years ago and had forgotten how beautifully sounding these chords are. Time to retune. Thank you Mr James....

This song always gives me hope for something better. Tomorrow's anniversary is a reminder of that. The lesson is as good as when you did it back in 13' (minus the rain outdoors of course). Fantastic. The HOTH version in 7 minutes and 32 seconds is an equivalent Opus to the entire Abbey Road album. TSRTS version should be translated into other languages to help heal the world's wounds.
Practicing for just 6 months, I'd hope to be able to crank out "If I Had A Hammer"...
Thanks always.

I learned this is standard tuning when I was 16 (in 1984). Didn’t know it was in another tuning! Got it sounding pretty close, but it took some tricky work

James. Thank you for all your time and effort breaking this down. I never thought I could play this 20yrs ago. The tuning is awesome. I found myself going off track and finding melodic dissident fingerings. My dove had been in the case to long. (I damaged my hand with a saw.) You have really inspired me. In a month I'm leaps and bounds over where I was 10 years ago. The way you rip through this stuff. Good ear. Excellent teaching. Please leave PT up good stuff. Hope your shoulder is 100% Cheers

I learnt to play this song with your old video, recorded on your porch. Good memories!

Thanks for doing this. I've seen lots of tutorials, but for some reason, i think bc you were singing the little bits to show where we are in the song. That really helped me figure out what comes next. And i think you are very accurate to how it's played. I appreciate it

You mentioned the Unleded version. That is one of my favorite version of this song. That finger picked coda and Page's smile at the end were priceless. Another great lesson. This is another one of Page at the apex of his creative genius.
