It's been revealed that Transport Minister Catherine King blocked negotiations with Qatar Airways over its request to double flights into Australia.
On Thursday, at a Senate inquiry into the matter, the Department of Transport and Infrastructure said it sent a negotiating mandate to Ms King, with a rejection in its response.
The decision to block Qatar's request for 28 additional weekly flights has become a significant issue for the Albanese government.
The extra services were supported by Australia's tourism industry and several states.
Former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce also hasn't escaped the firing line, with Mr Joyce facing the prospect of jail time if he fails to front the inquiry.
The former Qantas boss has been warned he must face the inquiry when he returns to Australia from a European holiday.
