In the books the original story is that silent brother (Zachariah) raised( Magnus Bane)and gave him his last name which means ( Greatness)after his mother killed herself and his stepfather turned very abusive 😭💖then (Magnus)raised and protected( Raphael Santiago) because one human-hating Vampire tried to kill him but endup alive and lost in the underworld, 70 years ago when ( Raphael) was a young teenager and he was violently attracked ( Magnus) saved his life by healing wounds but he couldn't stop him from truning into a vampire because the poison from the vampire bite reached the vital organs so taught him how to live as a vampire in the underworld with all the warlocks, Werewolves, pixies and other vampires like him 💖😭

That potion may not have really been for Raphael, but in one of the newest episodes he does mention going to visit his sister's grave. This means he probably was telling the truth about her not doing very well health wise at this time.
