This is a comparison of the Chinese, GELG, and Wavian/Walpro Jerry Gas/Petrol cans.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, these gas cans have become hard to get and prices have increased Below are the links of my original purchases from November 2019.

FYI, Amazon links are affiliate links. I get a small finder's fee for referring purchasers to their sites and it helps me build my channel. Thanks

Chinese can alone is a deal breaker. Who would even purchase it not having a inside coating. Excellent video

If the E.P.A.didnt screw everything up, we'd still have good gas cans.

I have 8 GELG cans that I have been using for gasoline storage. Pretty good quality and I would definitely buy more if needed. So far they have been stored for 1 1/2 years with treated non-ethanol gasoline. No leaks at this point. I will start rotating the gasoline at the two year mark (September) and I'll get to see how the insides are holding up. In the very near future I am going to purchase 4 more GELG's regardless.

One thing that I noticed is that my GELG cans have the same locking pin system as the Wavian shown in this video.

A true, unbiased review is rare to come by these days. You've listed pros and cons for all three products and helped the viewer make his decision objectively.
Thank you for making such an excellent video!

The writing on the side is the UN HAZMAT container code, basically tells you the material of the can, what liquid flash point it's certified to hold, if it is reusable, etc.

Great review. Not shocked the Chinese one is crap. Even the "expensive" examples are of variable quality and their liner's the same(a friend of mine has made this mistake more than once). Plus I try to avoid buying Chinese anyway and did so before this virus nonsense. Joke is I have an original WW2 German Jerrycan from 1942 and it's still leak free, not rusty, the welds are fine(and recessed as per the original design) and the liner is as glossy as the day it was made. I've only replaced the rubber seal in the cap. Just goes to show good quality well looked after can last a lifetime. Like anything buy the best quality and you won't lose money in the long term. In your line up it would be the Wavian for me, though I'd also look at NATO army surplus too(though that's easier in Europe where I am).

I have a few Jerry cans one of which is an ex MOD can dated 1956 that I found in a field 35 years ago, it’s still used for old oil and it’s still good 👍🏻🇬🇧.

I screwed up and bought multiple cheap gas cans (likely Chinese but don't know for certain) for emergency fuel storage. My buddy took me out on his boat to go crabbing, and to be a nice guy I filled one up with non-ethanol gas and gave it to him. He put it in the shed that is attached to his 2nd home, a beach house. Then he went home and forgot about it. Next time he came back, it had leaked all 5 gallons of gas over his floor. One single spark and it would have blown up the place. The smell really hasn't gone away either. Wavian only for me now. I suspect that the expansion caused a weld on the bottom to break and leak.

The NATO jerry can is basically perfect and I really wish they'd just make more of them and monopolize the market because we don't need shitty knock offs.

The best value can is an ex NATO can, yes they’re second hand but proper heavy duty and £10-£15 each.

The 2 small holes on the handle are for attaching an 'Octane # / fuel type tag' . It's a Military thing.

Thank you so much Chris...your review of the difference between each Jerrycan was very helpful!

That part is often called a cotter pin.

Good stuff.
I do want to say you misidentified the Chinese spot welds as tacs, and did the opposite with the GELG can, which are tacs or short runs, not spot welds.
The problem with the cotter pin on the GELG can is not so much that you'll lose it but that cotter pins are a pain in the neck to fiddle around with if you're fixing to actually use the can with any regularity.

Also those flexible spouts are no good, they tear away at the base after minimal use and I have had them with the breather hole drilled on the wrong side. Which forces me to maneuver a 20kg+ can on its side and raised over or level with my shoulder to fill a car, generator, excavator, etc.

The problem we had using them in the military is the inside coating/ paint flakes and rust! That ends up clogging fuel filters, injectors and jets in carburetors. Watchout for the cans with exterior metal ridge seam that isn't recessed! The seams get banged up and rust and leak! Yikes!

Thank you. I order a Wavian about a week ago, it hasn't arrived yet ... but I got thinking that I hadn't seen any reviews on it. Good to know it should be good quality.

Great veido! As there isn't any US government certification requirements, the Chinese Jerry can is still very risky considering gasoline is flammable and potentially explosive. I'd say the Wavian all the way. It is expensive but you definitely get what you pay for!!!

Glad I came across this video. Gelg works for me...thanks for the information

I bought my personal jerry can in Germany when I was in the RAF in 1984 for 20 deutsche marks back then, roughly 5 UK £ at the time. It's in my shed somewhere now, not used it for 20 years or more! But I'm gonna dig it out and check whether it's still serviceable or not. Might need it soon! It might be a good idea to review old jerry cans, see how well they do actually last over many years.

Latvians are still using original german equipment.
I'm only wondering why Wehrmacht 's are called NATO Jerry cans?
