Planet Local: A Quiet Revolution, a film by the international NGO Local Futures, shows a quiet and transformative revolution emerging worldwide.

Away from the screens of the mainstream media, the crude ‘bigger is better’ narrative that has dominated economic thinking for centuries is being challenged. As people work to protect and restore their local economies, their communities and the natural world, countless diverse initiatives are demonstrating a new path forward for humanity. It’s a path that localizes rather than globalizes, connects rather than separates, and shows us that human beings need not be the problem – we can be the solution.

One thing that strikes me about this video, though I totally agree with localizing economy as much as possible, is that no country identifying as Socialist is represented. Cuba? Venezuela? China? Laos? Vietnam? Nicaragua? Bolivia? The Movement in this movie takes place inside a Capitalist framework. And someone says "governments left and right...." yet most of the globalization shown is perpetrated by the colonizers, which are, for the most part, the western powers. I see this a serious omission.

I stumbled upon The Economics of Happiness years ago and it is a film that positively shaped my world view as a young student. I recommend it to anyone that will listen to this day. I didn't know you had a new documentary out - about to watch.
