Clarity's CEO Chris Reddick, and VP of Marketing, Ron Halversen met to discuss everything you need to know about HIPAA Compliance. In this webinar, they cover a number of topics from the basics of what HIPAA is, what it means for your business or healthcare institution, to software, tools vendors, and integrations for HIPAA.
HIPAA, or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, is made up of 4 rules: HIPAA Privacy, HIPAA Security, HIPAA Enforcement, and HIPAA Breach Notification. Learning more about HIPAA Compliance is important if your website is used to collect, store, process, display, or transmit EMR/EHR/PHI data. HIPAA does not cover physical health records or electronic records that are stored in a single location with no means of web transfer.
Abiding by the HIPAA rules will help you avoid major consequences, which can mean penalties starting from $100 to $50,000. In some cases, there are violations that fall in the category of a criminal charge, which can result in jail time.
When choosing your software or consulting vendor, you'll need to consider whether the team you select has HIPAA Compliance experience, as your platform will likely follow complex workflows.
