The funny thing is, anti-hero is actually a term used in literature analysis. However, contrary to popular belief, it doesn't necessarily describe a villain or a rebel who follows their own morals. It simply means the main characters lacks heroic qualities such as courage, bravery or determination, in some instances also morality or ideals.

Edit 1: I had a DnD character who is very much an anti hero that goes full villain and somehow came up with this quote, "Why is it I'm called the monster? Society walked away from ME. All I did was realize how much easier that made it to bury the knife in its back."
Edit 2: The same villian DnD character from before recently spawned another infamous quote. My character was used as a BBEG in a friend's campaign and I was invited to play as him again in his unveiling. The party had been discovering clues about my identity for weeks and when they finally caught up to me this was the quote. One of the Heroes, "Mr Blackstone I presume? We've heard a lot about you"
Me: "Truly? I think you will find I am much more terrifying then the stories say."

Being the antihero is way better than a normal hero. a normal hero has to do his rules, in order to safely do his mission, but as an anti-hero... you don't need rules.
