What Made Andor a Hit While The Acolyte Flopped (Part 1), or Andor vs The Acolyte (Part 1)

Why is it that despite both Andor and The Acolyte being projects that were not really in demand at first, one has become a fan favorite and the other has not? Let's talk about the most important aspects that separate one show from the other...

Andor is a mature, well-written, well-acted, and well-directed story. It's everything The Acolyte is not.

But why? Kathlene Kennedy was kept far away from Andor. So she killed it. At least we get a final season.

Andor worked for several reasons.

1. The writer/director was not a Star Wars fan and knew little so came in with an open mind and desire to make something for the IP.
2. It was about a thing few cared about, a spy. It's mundane, its story can be dumped into and can fit ANY IP. Literally ANY IP. You can create a spy show for Lord of the Rings FFS.

The only thing needed to succeed was to inject "Star Wars" into the story.

The Acolyte failed for the opposite reasons.

1. The writer believed they knew better than the fans and came in with a desire to change things.
2. It was about a thing most Star Wars fans cared about. The Force, Jedi and Sith and they did a bunch of shit that did not fit what is known about Star Wars.

I'd like to elaborate on the pacing argument.

Andor follows a clear pattern of 2 build up episodes that explains the situation of the people involved and of course adding a tiny bit to the overall story, then comes a 3rd episode which is the explosive finale of the given arc, where all the points from the earlier build up episodes plays a role, so you are rewarded for noticing the details in the episodes.

As you say, the pacing of the other shows feels all over the place, either because they made it as a movie and then cut it into pieces, or because the writting is simply filled small bits that destroy pacing and atmosphere. - disney has had a bad trackrecord of taking moments that by all accounts should be acted out deeply seriously, and putting in "yo mama" jokes and other humor, completely shattering the moments.

One was made by creative professionals. The other by inexperienced creatives that seem more interested in selling their belief system than telling a story.

Do you guys go to YouTube training where they tell you to repeat things over and over and make silly little videos that pop up every half second?

But why does everyone do that now? Do you think we are idiots?

Hit? Andor was good, but it certainly wasn't a hit.
