Awesome videos. I'm an English teacher and am having my students watch and study these videos. I also had them create each these various fallacies for themselves and created a lot of example of them to identify, thanks to these very clear and thought-filled videos.  Thanks Kevin!

After watching a video on fallacies, I have now been flooded with similar videos. While it is good that there are such videos, they can promote a kind of behaviour which is fallacy-like itself : that is arguing the fallacy.

Too many times people dismiss an argument because they believe they can shoe horn it into their understanding of a certain fallacy. They go through an argument listing the fallacies and never actually address the argument. What I wish these types of videos would make clear is this : a fallacy is NOT equivalent to an incorrect conclusion. Since it is possible to arrive at the correct conclusion for all the wrong reasons, the search for fallacies is best left directed at one's own reasoning.

Very nicely explained, I wasn't clear on the premises of an argument to be deemed as a fallacy, this video has clarified that. Thanks a lot for explaining in detail the parameters for an argument to be classified as a fallacy.

The first example of John is affirming the consequent, right?

i have a question/request for a nother video/addition:
some people denie an arguments validity because the don't want the conclusion.
for example people often say they don't want to live in a world without god. they use this to justify their beliefs. is there a name for this fallacy?
this is also a often used fallacy in discussions about eugenics, technological advancements, the use of nuclear physics (fusion bomb vs fusion reactor) and so on. did you cover this already in a video? i think this would also count under the Ad Hominem Fallacy, only that they dont disagree because of the opponents properties but because of the concequences if the claim were true.

Loaded questions, which is often considered a type of fallacy, would be excluded under this definition of fallacies.

Every fallacy is a bad argument, so all bad arguments are fallacies. There! A fallacious statement 😊

Some of these fallacies appear to be fallacies to me.
1) Appeal to Authority.  I accidentally got into an argument with an atheist (a fallacy bully) over the existence of God.  He demanded only scientific proof and emphatically rejected Moses, Socrates (in Phaedo) and Plato (in Timaeus) all believing in God therefore God exists which is an appeal to authority fallacy but also the foundations of Western Civilization (Judeo-Christianity and Greeko-Roman).  Also the military runs on appeal to authority, the medical profession runs on appeal to authority and the courts also for psychiatric testimony.  But especially I object to Western Civilization being thrown in the trash as an unscientific baseless delusion while science is fundamentally atheistic scientific materialism (begging the question and affirming the consequence fallacies).
2) Slippery Slope fallacy:  Please see the YouTube video "Dishonesty's Slippery Slope" by knowledgeatwarton and "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death (FULL VERSION)"

3) Truth fallacy.  Logic does not have a good definition for truth therefore true-not true is a problem.
4)  Band wagon fallacy.  See Dr. Rupert Sheldrake's book "The Science Delusion" for some 10 bed rock scientific ideas which are mere presumptions.

You lost me when you used the word "bad" in describing the defining property of a fallacy. In fact, your answer to the question "What is a fallacy?" is bad.

So, it's OK to lie on your taxes.
