What's happening to us?

Here's what I'm reading:

Since the release of the smartphone and the growth of social media, the world has gotten extremely exciting. A lot of this excitement has made the world very crazy. The more I start to understand why the world is exciting, the more I understand the importance of living a boring life, a simple life focused on my space in this world.

In this video, I explain "6 Reasons I Choose To Live A Boring Life."

1. Excitement Has Gotten Too Manipulative

In the last decade, excitement has gotten to an extreme level where we're flooded with a bunch of exciting content that draws up in. A lot of the excitement, however, plays off of subconscious human emotions that can manipulate you. I believe that content that portrays a lot of excitement can be very manipulative. I choose to not get to caught up in this excitement to avoid being subconsciously manipulated by it.

2. You Can Lose Yourself To Too Much Excitement

Since social media became big and we have smartphones, people have been acting a lot differently in this last decade. People may say things online that they would never say in the real world or act different in public when they are in front of a camera. Seeking too much excitement can be dangerous as you can lose yourself to it. Now more than ever, we need to guard what comes in our minds so we don't lose our ability to think for ourselves.

3. For My Mental And Physical Health

Mental and physical health level have been at their lowest point in history and I believe that it has a lot to do with the about of excitement we consume. It is important to be intentional about how much exciting content you consume and remember to protect your mental and physical health. As boring as "boring" is, it is much healthier than the norm.

4. To Not Get Played By Greed

In my videos, I talk a lot about personal finance and making intentional decisions with your money. The reason I believe it is important to look out after your financial well being is because if you don't, you will get played by greed. We are often sold this idea that we can buy happiness through spending money on possessions; however, I believe that these are just marketing strategies. Living a boring life means focusing on the little things and not getting caught up in this system that benefits very few people.

5. Because Intention Is A Necessity Now

The more I create videos and try to understand how to grow, the more I realize how important intention is in life. We are living in a very manipulative world and if you do not live with intention, you will be eaten alive by the system. It is important to think for yourself, question everything, and not be influenced. Living a boring life means living an intentional life.

6. Boredom Is The Last Thing On Earth That Is Real

It is very difficult nowadays to separate the difference between fact and fiction as the world is more exciting than ever. And although the world is more exciting, I do not believe that any of this excitement is real. The truth is boring and because it is boring nobody cares about it. I choose to live a boring life because although it isn't exciting, at least it is real. Boredom is the last thing on Earth that is real and it will always remain real.

I’m 16, and was born a year before the iPhone came out. I spent most of my pre-teen years staring at my phone and tv and after I learned how much that was harming me, I stopped. I now only have YouTube and spend my time playing my guitar, listening to cds and vinyl records, drawing or writing, and reading. It’s so much better and I hope more people can realize this as time goes on. Peace ✌️

I know so many kids who can't do a thing because their hands are glued to their cell phone. My 20 year old niece has attempted suicide several times. Won't cook, won't work, has no hobbies, is bored and depressed every day, hates her life. Compares her boring life to the lives of her "friends" on social media. Face it, social media is killing people. Literally.

I grew up in the 70’s. Boredom was the beginning of creativity. I built tents out of sheets. I rearrange my bedroom to suit my needs. Boredom made the creative man that I am today. Thank you for reminding me to allow boredom into my life.

Boredom? I call it peace and tranquility. Living a simple, unnoticed, peaceful life is so nice. I get to go home (I'm 30 and single) and it is so quiet my ears ring. It's so nice to lay back and just embrace the now and do nothing for a while in this crazy go-go-go world. It's what keeps me from going crazy. It happens to be that because I live a similar life style that I never got caught up in social media despite Youtube. It's my TV. Why post about my boring life? No one cares. the most interesting thing about me is my car... to which I iterate: no one cares. Us boring home bodies have found the secret to life. We stopped searching for happiness and learned to be content with what we have. Most people don't learn this very important life lesson until they are old and tired of running around.

As a male in his 50s, who's pretty much seen it all. Don't fall into the consumerism. There is a lot to be said for living a basic life. Friends, family, health and good hobbies and self investment will hold you in good stead. There is a lot of truth in the adage, that the journey somewhere is more fun than when you reach the destination. To anyone today, your greatest commodities are time and health. You never know when either will be taken from you so enjoy every day.

Great to hear this from a young person! My husband's motto was always: "Boring is good". So far, he made it to 85, and he is still going strong! And he's done a million interesting things in his life.

As a young adult woman, I've been spending most of my time with very old people. That "boring" lifestyle to others is my way of staying grounded and peaceful. And I've learnt so much from them... lovely people!! :')

I really love this message.

The happiest times I’ve actually had were the small things like reading a book in a beautiful library,
Sipping coffee at a corner cafe,
Journaling in the woods etc.

Over stimulated and burnt out is a good way to describe the iPhone era

I drive for the Amish in my community. They have no TVs, no radios, no computers. After a few months of being around them, I found myself jealous of their lifestyle. I’ve definitely pared down my life in many ways now but have more to go. The more I let go of, the more at peace I feel. No more, go here, do this, do that, eat this not that, buy this buy that. No more.. your living room is no longer in style because some designers got together and decided the color that’s “in” now. I could go on and on but you catch my drift. Peace ☮️

I’ve recently found your account, and despite being a 63 year old wife / mother / sister / friend / aunt I can’t believe how much sense you - a much younger and therefore one would expect less wise (sorry if that sounds patronising) - talk! All the videos I’ve watched so far are absolutely spot on! I only wish I had your wisdom decades ago. AND I love your new backdrop …. Very calming

When my kids used to say they were bored, my husband would say, Welcome to America where you are privileged enough to be bored. Lol. It’s very true though that we are blessed in the US to have that luxury.

Rather then calling it boring, I prefer a small self directed style of living. Being comfortable with solitude and having the ability to find ways to entertain yourself allows you to live life on your own terms without pressure from marketing and advertisers. Being content with what you have makes all the difference. Live your life on your own terms. It is obvious that there is a need for what you are sharing. The studio is very much inline with your lifestyle.

Mistaking internet content for excitement is like mistaking a case of Redbull for actual energy. It's not about avoiding excitement, it's about finding real excitement. Those of us who are old enough to be your granny find going for a walk with the dog very exciting.

Remove yourself from the matrix. Don't let anyone or anything program or trigger you. By being alone in peace you are knowing yourself. Always quality videos from you Austin. Thanks. Stay dangerous

There was a period in my life where I didn't go on my phone, computer or watch TV. I just walked for 3 hours a day, cooked and baked everything from scratch, and spent my free time trying to learn Spanish, meditating and visiting with friends. I was so happy and the littlest things would excite me/make me happy. I want to get back to that so badly 😢

I live in a small town of about 800 people in North Idaho. My husband and I chose to move here from San Diego close to 20 years ago. I don't have tv, can't get radio reception, don't have a fancy phone--I have a landline and a small tracfone I take with me for emergencies, haven't been to the movies in years. I have a computer--I run a small online business to supplement my retiirement income. My hobby is learning. The internet and books are great for that. We have a few rescue cats. My son and his family bought a home 9 houses down from me. I feel so lucky. I feel at peace.

“When you’re the one being manipulated, it’s very hard to notice.” SO TRUE! Also, all this “excitement” has desensitized me to excitement. It’s an endless doom-loop of stimulation!

Since doing away with my social media accounts and not spending a whole lot of time watching YouTube videos, my life has gone back to how it was when I was younger and did more things, than just watching someone else have fun.

Yes, my life has gotten way boring, but I love it! It's so calming and peaceful. And way less stressful which is beneficial to my mindset and soul. I love it here.

Whenever I complained, my mom used to say, “intelligent people don’t get bored.” I wanted to be intelligent, so I found something to do—usually creating or exploring, often with friends or family. The things I learned then are still passions in my life. I’m 40 now and need to get back to boredom as a doorway to positive activity.
