Two Years Later: How Good was BDSP?

I love my Brilliant Diamond review, but it had some editing errors due to me trying to hit a tight deadline. So, this is a redo of it!
All the songs should be the same, except with Route 206 and Route 225 at the end. Thanks for watching!

Seeing so many enjoy the review I worked hard on makes me so happy! Please turn on subtitles if I talk too fast. Thank you so so much for watching. :)

the fact that BDSP is already two years old is just a different story on its own

The problem with these games is we cant shake the feeling we were shortchanged. Instead of getting a HGSS style reimagining of Sinnoh with all of the original content plus all of the gen 8 mechanics and pokemon and graphics that pushed the latest system, we got the old mechanics with the old pokemon and missing content from the original.
Being faithful doesnt make BDSP bad, but when remakes have been used as an opportunity to reimagine an old region to conform to the latest generation of pokemon, getting sinnoh remakes that are stuck in gen 4 feels like a wasted opportunity.

Honestly, since the very first time the "faithfulness" element was mentioned in a trailer I only saw it as an excuse by the pokemon company to do as little possible to put any effort into updating the game to modern standards

I liked how they did it in gen 5 where if you went off the beaten path you found the good some of the best TM's like flamethrower. I think that's better than just going back to the stupid breakable TM's there's no reason to have them like that when HM's don't break

Who here remembers when affection was not only optional but also had this cute head turning animation?

We wanted HG/SS. A game that re-treads the original beats of the originals, while adding additional features and functions. Postgame legend hunting, incorporation of elements from Crystal, the completely new and novel customizable Safari Zone,

We wanted OR/AS. A game that allows us to explore a familiar region with a new twist. Further elaboration on Megas (coupled with more individuals making use of Megas in the game than in XY), the new mechanic of the Eon Flute, the added story of the Delta Episode - acknowledging Emerald without compromising the original identity of the games, and creating a completely new and quite liked character in Zinnia in the process.

This is what I was wanting in BD/SP. I wanted to see Sinnoh through a new light - iron out a lot of the more performance-related things, add a Delta Episode for Giratina, couple new things and maybe some new way to experience the region. While I would have appreciated something like new Megas, as well, it wasn't something I was particularly counting on, and I didn't expect Dynamax to leave Galar (and it wouldn't have fit Sinnoh even if it did). But... this wasn't it. This wasn't anything "new." The only thing that could even maybe fit that bill was the postgame area where you find all the Legendaries - and even that sort of falls flat compared to hunting for Legendaries in OR/AS or HG/SS, because there's no hunt - they're just there.

I actually really liked playing Brilliant Diamond. But yeah it could have been far better.

I liked these games. It was challenging enough (unless you have infernape) and I like how the health bars move faster than the originals

20:02 _"(...) fans have distinct memories tied to the sights and sounds of Sinnoh"_

Oh you don't know how much. I distinctly remember how, when I stepped out of the Distortion World for the first time, it really _did_ feel like I had just stepped out of a humid cave and a fresh breeze was blowing into my face, being able to see sunlight again. It was such a wonderful feeling that I haven't been able to recreate ever since.

I like the friendship feature
It's cool knowing your pokemon will cheese you to victory if you keep using it and don't let them die

Pokemon BDSP is genuinely a game i dislike. Because gen 4 is my favourite so to see we did not get the same love as gen 2 and 3 fans. They had the perfect formula snd dropped it for a graphical change and nothing really else. Also this game needed platinum features far more than the other 3 remakes prior, and even then HGSS got crystal stuff and ORAS got emerald stuff too.

I enjoyed the game when I played it. I did have fun I just was disappointed with how little was added, made me just want to play a fan made rom.

To me personally, BDSP fails as a remake because there is really no reason to play this remake over Platinum. If you want to compare it to the original diamond and pearl then yeah it is a perfectly fine remake, but that is such a lame argument. That would be like if they remade Gold and Silver again but removed all of the content from Heartgold and SoulSilver, the framework was made and loved over 10+ years prior.

We can argue all day about how the new generations of pokemon are/aren't as quality as the old gens. But when a remake where all of the most difficult aspects of it were already completed over a decade beforehand, I just can't be as forgiving.

This isn't even a "every previous remake brought that game up to the standards of the current generation so why couldn't this one do it to" type of argument. I was fully expecting the remakes to not be on the scale of Sword/Shield, but damn TPC gave ILCA no chance of making a remake worth a damn

The problem isn't that it was faithful.

The problem is that it was TOO faithful

The term "faithful remake" really does a lot of heavy lifting for these games. They literally copied the original code, pasted it into unity, and then slightly changed a few things

I hate the movement in bdsp, its like every single wall in the game is covered in layers of sticky honey
