The term limit she’s referring to was not an end date to being enslaved. It was an end of lease agreement between the slave owner and the renter. The person would simply be leased again and again.

Typically a person started as a slave before 12 years old and typically died young while in servitude.

The reason European born slaves became less common was because of the French Revolution, not race. European Monarchs whose entire population were serfs (literally means slaves) feared the guillotine.

Indentured servants as young as 7 were separated & sent here on ships in a sort of lottery, especially during the potato famine. Their families sought a future in the colonies. To get out of the deadly british workhouses. Some were signed for up to 20 yrs. It was brutal & deadly but my Irish families experience isn't the same as the experience of African people. It's part of my history. I do embrace it. But for people to say the Irish experience is on the same level is ridiculous.

Aye, I'm Irish - we were always taught it was indentured servitude. Not slavery. That's an obvious attempt to obfuscate the facts on racism and slavery.
Go raibh maith agat.

An American telling Irish their history. She is cherry picking certain types of slaves to move the conversation away from the topic at hand. See we can all do it.

There was no contract. Most of them couldn't even read and write. Channel is trash. This man doesn't care about the history of slavery. He only cares about the history of 1 group of people.

Slavery is slavery no mattee how you look at it. And that woman is a fool to say there wernt Irish slaves. During Cromwells conquest of Ireland he took many Irish slaves and it remained so for years. You can fact check what I say. I cant fact check you outside of your primary source

We were slaves to England longer then African slaves in America. We were treated the same in America as blacks, natives, Italians, polish etc. their used to be signs on store fronts that said “no dogs no blacks no Irish” etc and a black slave made more money than a “Irish slave” because they could work harder and longer, the difference is negligible and this whole topic is a dumb comparison distracting you from the truth

Why do people act like talking about the enslavement of black people somehow disrespects other people who were enslaved!? Compassion for one group doesn’t mean less for another.

Slavery is older than the bible and occurred amongst all races and in different cultures.
Opportunities have arisen for anybody to be economocally well off regardless of race or background.

Problems are more about the wealthy versus the poor, and the poor not realizing that another race is not the problem. It's the 1% who have everybody fighting each other.

What she said is fundamentally wrong. Many "indentured servants" had no contract and there is no record of their release. As well there is numerous recorded instances of irish females being used as breeding stock to create more slaves. This isnt "anti black" or "racist" to ask about them. Since it shows how slavery in the new world was more complicated then how you portray it. Especially given there are many recorded instances of blacks owning other blacks

If Irish people being slaves isn't real and we shouldn't talk about it, nobody should talk about Africans being slaves.

What about the Barbary pirates? Masa musu? A fair percentage of slaves in those African regimes. Any non Muslims were faire game.

Pretending that the Irish didn't have a history of slavery and indentured servitude doesn't honor the late African slaves. It just makes the burden heavier.

You look like Rhett Shull the guitar guy. He’s white but you could be brothers.

Edit: you talk similarly too lol

This, on my part, is not whataboutism. Why Americans are incapable of acknowledge that slavery of white people existed too, NOT JUST indentured servitude in the USA? I get that you are facing fascism, but human history is more than just the USA. Both framing are rebuttal only. Why is it hard to say: masters could be black and slave can be white, but it never happened in American history? After that precision, you can talk about African and Native slaves for as long as you want and be 100% accurate.
