Fix a nonnegative real number s. Choose a and b such that s = a^2 + b. So that s - a^2 = ( sqrt( s ) - a )( sqrt( s ) + a ) = b. Now, this means that sqrt( s ) - a = b / ( sqrt(s) + a ). Hence sqrt( s ) = a + b / ( 2a + b / ( 2a + b/ (2a + … ) ) ). What we have here is s = 25, a = 1 and b = 24. Ideally you want your a to be large and b to be small.

I thought this was about penmanship. Continued fractions are fun, too, though.

I did figure out a better way of writing capital G though. I don't think it's common, at least:

Start with a C, going top end to bottom,
go inside to form a regular G, perhaps as round as to be ambiguous with 6
make two straight lines, one going out to the right, then straight down.

You should now have a particularly fancy looking G. The main benefit, though, is that now it looks nothing like a 6. It's really slick. Others probably already write their Gs like this, but I think it's pretty neat and worth sharing.
