Pentatonic Scale Shredding | How To Come Up With Cool Licks!

Today's topic: pentatonic scale shredding! I show you a cool practical example and some of my methods on how to come up with cool licks in this context. This scale is often reduced to a 'beginner scale' because most of us start out with it when we dive into the world of improvisation and solos. It consists out of 5 notes while popular shred scales like the modes, harmonic minor or phrygian dominant consist out of 7 notes, hence called heptatonic scales. That means that the preferred fingering with less notes is 2 notes per string - in this video we extend it to 3 notes per string to come up with more interesting patterns.

I tried watching another youtubers video on this and they talked for like the first 4 or 5 minutes before showing an example. Your video is 100% better, new subscriber \m/

i love it when awesome players are also great teachers and master rhetoricians who can articulate sentences as brilliantly as they can blaze on the fretboard (its equally cool to listen to people who have a thick accent speak english more fluently than a harvard professor). i just stumbled upon this video accidentally but something tells me i'm going to spend the entire weekend checking out this channel !

Thank You Bernth, all the way from Phoenix Arizona, USA. I appreciate your slowing down the shred to show the simplicity and thereby putting the ability to shred in the hands of everyone.

You are the master of editing all this information into less than 10 min videos. These work so well to use for my practice time every day too. Looking forward to starting your course soon Bernth thanks again for another awesome video! :)

Your superimposed notes on top of your fingers is magnificent to players like me who do not have the fretboard memorized effortlessly. Thanks!

Honestly as an advanced player myself these exercises are absolutely great! I usually just do whatever I want and don't bother much with lessons on youtube but your videos, the lenght and how you do them is absolutely perfect. 10/10 amazing work dude!

This has to be one of my favorite licks on this channel. Gonna take a few days to get this down, a few weeks to get it up to speed.

Hi, Bernth Thanks for the lesson. I see guitar players doing tapping technique like that all the time, but I wasn't sure what they were really doing. And your lesson cleared that up for me. I found it to be very helpful. I have already been working on pentatonic scale in my scale book here at home this week, and when I seen this lesson I had to check it out. I really like the way you show the tabs and dot markers, it really helps to follow along. The Ibanez guitar you use is really hard to follow on, but the dot markers make up for that. I really like that guitar by the way. It awesome!
Thanks Again
Todd P.
