From career and relationship advice, to practical self-esteem tips—these 10 hard truths might be difficult to digest at first. Further, they might be something you have to learn on your own. But if you're feeling a little lost, this might be a good video to help grant you some clarity. You got this!

It took me a lot longer than I'd like to get my first "real" job out of college (in my field). Working a white collar job terrified me, but I took on a strategy. The night before work, I'd set up my coffee pot to brew right as my alarm was going to go off (programmable Mr. Coffee was the best college purchase ever), I'd plan an outfit I was excited to wear, I'd prepare a lunch I would be excited to eat, and plan one thing to do after work that I could get excited about. Sometimes that would be a board game event at a local bar, or sometimes its something as simple as reading a new book I got or playing video games with friends. Building these touchstones of joy into every day made coping with the new stress, schedule, information overload etc a lot easier, and I still do it every day.

Prepping this stuff the night before also makes getting out of bed as low resistance as possible, At 6am when I am not even awake yet, coffee is already there, I don't have to think about what I'm going to wear. I just stumble around next thing I know I'm in my car jamming out to my music on my way to work.

As a 26 year old still looking for "purpose", thank you so much for this.

One day I woke up and realized if I wanted to be an artist making decent money to at least pay the bills, I have to cut out a space in the world by myself and not wait for one to appear because it never will. I have no contacts, no network, no friends irl, so I'm starting literally from the NOTHING at 21 years old.

Having a college degree in art won't magically give me a job, so I have to start working NOW and make the dream happen. We are our own fairy godmothers, people!

Great video. ❤

I'm 44. This all applies! My advice to younger people... Opportunities crop up all the time, the trick is seeing them - keep your eyes open. Oh, and don't forget to moisturise your neck 😂

Turning 24, this year, I have had a rough start of my 20s. Family members passing, having a job that wasn’t fulfilling, a long term relationship that ended.

Leaving that job and being unemployed has allowed me to learn to love myself, find things I enjoy, find things I want to learn, and honestly I am so thankful for this time as well as your videos for both professional life, and this one about real life.

Your videos are the right amount of realistic and optimistic, for me, at least, and here’s to a great rest of my and everyone else’s 20s 🎉.

Wow, you did not lie I feel very different. As a 20 year old, this was the best video I've yet seen on this topic (and I've seen a lot). Truly Thank You

I really appreciate how all the advice here is genuinely helpful and applicable to nearly anyone. No complicated investment “advice, ” nothing telling me to buy a program for all the answers, nothing telling zoomers like me to stop buying coffee. This is real advice that I actually found to be helpful

Thank you for this !! Just turned 20 in February, hoping this decade isn't as scary and soul shattering as many people say it is :)

Thank you for this. My mom has dispensed this advice my whole life, and it's so comforting being 1000 miles away and hearing it all again ❤

Another piece of advice I forgot to add to my earlier post:
20- somethings- don’t fear getting older. You will have to stretch more and you may want to go to bed earlier. But the trade-off is an improved sense of perspective (thanks to life experience) and a decreased concern with what others think of you. Those two things are so freeing! Your ability to see the big picture gets so much better and it can make you more sure of yourself.

College and my 20s were alright but in hindsight they were a lot of pressure due to all the personal and educational/professional milestones I was trying to reach. I reached some and not others. When I was younger I would have been devastated if you told me I didn’t achieve all I planned to achieve. But older me sees it differently. I did just fine and I think I might actually be better off not having gone down paths that were nice goals but just were not meant to be.

It is entirely possible you won’t achieve all your goals, and that might allow you to go on to something better!

i turn 29 this year, i need to hear some of these haha, even though i've been trying to work on most of it before i hit 30 next year. idk if i'll ever get the "dream job" bc i dont think i'll ever have one, but any job would be nice at this point after a year of job hunting and 10 billion rejections or ghostings, or toxic sounding job ads that gave me alarm bells instantly so i avoided them like wildfire.

Thank you, Erin! As someone who just graduated with a master’s at 25, this advice was very helpful. I especially needed a reminder to be grateful for the little things in life. 😊

With advice “don’t burn bridges” I mostly agree. But it is just as important to respect yourself, and if you’re being used or manipulated, you have all the rights in the world to ‘nope’ out of that professional relationship. That person isn’t going to completely ruin your career chances.

Thanks for the video it's been encouraging, I've been going through a lot with my current job not respecting me after i've worked for years with them, but i'm taking all the advice and change my life .

Erin, you are as encouraging and energetic as always! Love your video especailly the "I dont know" part, a great relieve to me who always fear people will look down on me if "I don't know". Thanks so much 😊

28 now, I learnt it all in theory by now, but still in the process of implementing them into the daily practice of my life. It's different to know and to do, to me it's a slow transition.
This is great advide btw, good luck everyone, you'll manage!
