There probably is SOMEONE watching from this point of view. It’s implied by dialogue throughout the game that literally any Aperture Science mechanism that requires even the slightest bit of artificial intelligence is made to be sentient. GLaDOS claims she murdered an automatic door, after all.

Did you know that GLaDOS is actually TWO consciousness living in one body?

How I understand it is that Cave Johnson wanted to become immortal and keep on running the facility, by transferring his consciousness into a machine. But something bad happened, so Cave Johnson couldn't do it, but they had already agreed to put Cave Johnson's assistant, Caroline, in control of the facility incase if something bad happened to Cave Johnson.

Then the next part of the story I'm unsure of. I guess Caroline's consciousness was put into a robot that already had an A.I.

I dont know why this thought terrifies me but someone commented in another video that her line from “get your hands off me” all the way to the end of her scream was probably the exact same thing caroline said when she was transferred into GLaDOS. In a way she could have been reminded of this event during the core transfer and was reliving past trauma.
