I can't believe how far Russell has come since he left being human. He's such an amazing actor.

BBC show Banished.

In the first episode, it is expressed that things are in very short supply, particularly food, but nothing is said or done in any way to explain why.
(eventually the major shows fungus on the stored rice(

It is expressed that many/most offenses are punishable by death, hanging.

The series begins with all the buildings such as housing, etc already long since built.
When a prisoner is about to be hung, late at night men are shown building a gallows.

First of all, since hanging is a more or less common thing, and we get the strong impression that the settlers have been there for a long time, why isn't there already a gallows ready to go?

Second of all, why bother with this device? Why waste the lumber, nails and manhours needed, instead of just flinging a rope over a tall tree branch, or putting a single bullet in his head?

In the second episode, the head officer (major) comes to see the governor, and a girl answers the door, the major says "who are you?" Later, the major confronts a different young woman prisoner who has been there long enough to have established a love relationship with one of the soldiers, yet he also does not know who she is.

It just isn't credible that the man in charge of security wouldn't know everyone on sight, or that there were enough settlers that he would miss knowing any of them.

When the two prisoners kill the blacksmith in Episode Two, in the middle of the night, while everyone including the blacksmith is asleep, the convict barracks is lit up with at least twenty candles.
First of all, do you think the audience is so retarded that they don't know the value of a candle in that era of history?
How rare, expensive and precious they are?
There is not enough food, but CONVICTS have so many candles that they leave twenty of them burning all night while people are asleep?
This is the writer taking a shit directly into the mouth of the audience.

A massive mistake was made timing this. When the first fleet & most of the 1800's the Australian flagbwas the Red ensign. Today's blue ensign was never used by many generations after the colonisation

The show has been criticised in Australia for not depicting any aboriginals at all in the entire series.

How he's just arrived and hey presto he has an Aussie accent. that just spoiled the program for me. accents take decades to change it does not happen on a beach, otherwise I would have a Spanish accent every year in August. Stupidity at its worse
