ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA - Shangri-La with Lyrics

"Shangri-La" was a fictional paradise from James Hilton's 1933 novel Lost Horizon. It is often associated as a place of Earthly paradise. This song seems to have two meanings: One referring to a loved one that is never going to come or never come back, the other being that it could be the main characters referring to the mystical lands itself.

The line, "Faded like The Beatles on 'Hey Jude'" is a reference to the famous Beatles song that contains an extraordinarily long fade-out.

He is best known as the co-founder of the rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which was formed in 1970. As a songwriter, he has contributed a number of hits to the repertoire of ELO, including "Evil Woman", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Don't Bring Me Down", and "Hold On Tight".

I have just returned from a day trip to the Shangri-La botanical gardens in Orange, Texas, USA. I was humming this song most of the way there and singing it most of the way home. Isn't it just wonderful? ELO kept me going through my later high school years. My friends all preferred Supertramp and used to barrack me for liking ELO. Well. Guess what? After 45 years. I win.
