We all know in which business this lens will thrive 😁

This is an innovative lens and I would never want to discourage a company from innovating

My grandpa was very into "stereo photography". He had several cameras that had 2 lenses, and took 2 photos simultaneously. Then he had viewers to to look at the image in 3D. Most of his stuff was from around 1900.
He had a huge collection of vintage cameras. I wish I knew then what I know now.

This lens will certainly sell great, and there will be a lot of content and a lot of consumers for the produced content. Because that is a lens made for the production of porn.

when you do VR, you are splitting the resolution. with an 8K sensor, that means you get a 4K VR video. people were "misled" when they bought something that had 2560x1440 resolution and wondered why the video was so soft, only to learn that each eye got 1280x1440. And the true view is more like 1280x1280 in each eye for this example. Those "5.2K" cameras don't really advertise that videos would be half that resolution.

I make my own stereo photos with two identical cameras side-by-side on a board, then view them with an old stereoscope and a phone. Some things you can never really capture properly in 2D, like snow piles or snow drifts.

This might be useful for another thing. Creating depth maps with a single camera to use them in VFX of for anything else requiring depth maps, maybe fast 3d scanning and texture creation too

14:30 What do you mean, 'concepts'? The HTC Evo 3D was a production model, I owned it. ☺ (it was also a very good phone beside the 3D)

You mentioning the family videos in the future is exactly what inspired me to start shooting VR. 💚

It's going to be as meaningful as watching family home vhs movies. I transfered all the vhs videos to digital to cherish the memories forever.😊

I watched a concert done with cuts in vr180... The band was a bit meh, but it was the coolest thing. I think vr180 will be a game changer if people ever get to trying it

It's worth noting that, when you talk about the 120hz refresh on a VR headset, that's how fast it's updating the image displayed on screen based on the movement and direction of your head, where if that's too slow, the fluid in your ears mismatches the signal from your eyes, and it makes you sick. The frame rate of the *content* you're viewing using that headset is something different, and all the traditional pros/cons for faster/slower framerates apply as they do in traditional non-VR mediums - where a slower 30/60hz obviously isn't a nice, but it won't make you sick.

This lens would be very useful in areal photography for mapping. Companys and governments would love to pay $6000 to have a digital stereo camera because it is an order of magnitude cheaper than other alternatives.

i just realize why RED’s new RF mount camera can shoot 8K 120P

7:54 slight correction: the original Oculus Quest actually had a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The Oculus Go, Oculus's first standalone headset, was limited to 60 Hz.

I will always prefer watching 3d over 2D content. Especially my home videos. Im going to get this just to shoot home video. Also watch the slomo guys in vr180. Amazing!

I still love the 3d movies. I have a Samsung 3d TV that I will never get rid of and I still buy every 3d movie that comes out even though there are much less now days. The glasses are not the big kind with batteries but the same as the movie theaters have so they don't cause any headaches. I still love having 3d movie night and the kids love it too even though they are getting older.

As soon as I saw this 12:36 it all made sense to me. Back when google did their cardboard 3d viewing thing you could make for yourself I got excited and tried to make one myself but learned you had to buy magnifying glasses to make it work so I tabled that idea. One thing I learned doing research was pretty much the only real content out there is the, ryhmes with corn, industry.

This is for corn producers. LOL. I shouldn't laugh but I guess times are just that tough for Canon, along with everyone else, ... when they're servicing the corn industry.

Vitrimin made one of these for the GoPro years ago. And... many many years ago Kodak and other companies made "Stereo Cameras" for 35MM and 828 Film that had two lenses. Go back even further and you find the Stereopticons. Everything old is new again.

I'm one of those who gets incredibly motion sick for hours while using VR of any kind. Doesn't matter how "immersive" this stuff is, won't be able to use it.
