I just want to say, thank you for taking the words out of my mouth.

This is true. My wife worked for a day care center; the teachers don't make much, but she took taxes for them - I suspect payroll and State (in this case DC).

I don't see how Republicans are deceitful about many not paying taxes when the context is *Federal income taxes*. The rich and the poor pay sales taxes, but that isn't what Republicans are talking about. As far as I remember, they weren't including sales taxes in the statistic of how much income taxes the rich pay to the federal government.

Redistribution of wealth is unfair. Check the facts; there out there.

A pure transaction tax on all activity would raise enough revenue to pay off the debt in three years. It would allow us to cancel ALL other Federal Taxes on EVERYTHING including FICA and Medicare. It would be an efficient tax on spending rather than on productivity and would be a very small tax, starting at just 1% and could be lowered as we pay off our debt. But we would need a spending limit to match. because the estimated "take" would be over $5 Trillion the first year alone.

What doesn't make ANY sense is the income tax system itself. Why would you structure a tax system which penalizes productivity and savings? Especially when there are better revenue gathering methods?

Exactly there should be ONE simple percentage tax. So people can see exactly how much they pay ! No hunderts of little taxes you pay everyday.... But that is what the state does... it doesnt want regular people to realize how much they pay ... How long do you think European "social" states would function if everybody clearly saw that they pay 3/4 of their income to the goverment.

What would be better? Tarrifs hurt the poor more than anyone else. This, ironically, I took from a famous aporcyphal story against government spending (the Davy Crokett one).

If you want to deal in equations I say that : countless idiots who buy near worthless stuff = making a few rich.

Examples are: people spending a weeks pay for "Air Jordan" shoes. Buying tickets to see Britney and Miley act like skanks. (not to mention buying products they endorse.) Inner city kids making gansta rappers wealthy instead of trying to work their way out of poverty. ETC.

In many cases its the poor make the rich wealthy. Its the rich celebs that "occupy" should be protesting.

OK, so if you earn 1, 000 a year, and the tax is 1, 000 a year, the governemnt takes your food money? Overdone. What if you don't make 1, 000? Should you go to jail?

first, Look up the word ‘metaphor’
Secondly, if you consider my statement, I said the working 30 year olds pay taxes, but likly arn't getting crap from the fed. this business about 50% don’t pay federal taxes I find unlikely, since you start paying at $7, 500, 3rd, class war is not a war of words, it’s a war of votes. I’m not of the mind that the rich are evil, so don’t try to put me in that box, I speaking of the larger number of poor voting for benefits rich are forced to pay for = CW

I'm really tired of this endless conflation between "federal income tax" and "taxes." It IS the case that the majority of Americans do not pay FEDERAL INCOME TAX. Nobody is saying that they don't pay ANY tax. But, for example, payroll tax is (supposedly) paying into a system that will ultimately pay you back. That is VERY different from paying FEDERAL INCOME TAX that has become largely wealth redistribution of one form or another, as well as propping up the industrial-military complex.

It is FACT that most Americans take more out of the tax system than they put in. And conflating the various forms of taxation simply shrouds this FACT. It's FAR past time to get EVERYBODY paying FEDERAL INCOME TAX (along with the other taxes that everybody already pays)! I'm sick of "progressive" taxation that has systematically destroyed the middle class and small businesses. It's time for a no-deductions, flat-tax. This "progressive" crap is just that!

Of course, nothing of the sort can EVER pass at this point, because the majority have become takers, so they will always vote to keep taking.

Some famous economist wisely said, "If you're robbing Peter to pay Paul, you'll always have the vote of Paul." This nation has become a majority of Pauls.
