Have you had good or bad experiences on Discord?

my personal experience is that discord is full of narcissists and horrible people out there pretending to be nice people.
been hurt way too many times and deleted it multiple times. swore i'd never touch it again and i haven't, time to do the same for video games as well.

it is really crucial to raise awareness about these matters, people are becoming more and more oblivious to such serious matters pertaining to social media platforms and their use. I am really thankful that many more yotubers like you are raising their voice on this issue, it is high time we all come together to address this problem as it's getting out of hand each day..

You have really opened my eyes about Discord. I had no idea it could be so toxic, but i'm not at all surprised. I have a Discord account but i've hardly ever used it, and now I have a good reason not to. It's better for me to stay away because i've been bullied so much throughout my life, and I have had enough of it.

I've met with a catfish who lured me into a relationship that lasted 3 days.

As a trust exercise, i asked if we could swap desktops for 3 minutes and look through eachother's stuff to make sure neither of us are bad people.

"She" didn't find anything bad on my end because i was a good person, but the stuff i found was far worse.

What i found in "her" google drive was memes about gore, racism, transphobia, suicide, a load of nazi propaganda and a ton of really f■ked up pornography.

I immediately disconnected, blocked and dumped the catfish and backed myself into a cold corner far away from my computer.

I'm glad I'm not using Discord anymore, good god that app is unhinged.

Discord is not so innocent as we think. Because I tried to do something good and some of the mods considered that I cause harrassment. Maybe some of them have low-level antisocial behaviour?

I’ve never used discord. I’m glad I haven’t.

I use Discord for my programming learning and gigs as well as CODM communities. However, I've noticed that my CODM gaming time has significantly consumed a majority of the time I used to allocate for coding. The constant notifications of my favorite YouTubers going live and participating in custom lobbies with fans are hard to resist, except when my device's battery is running low.

Watching this video about the dangers of Discord was an eye-opener for me because I was unaware of other aspects of Discord that could negatively impact my productivity. Despite this realization, I am actively taking steps to reduce my gaming time and refocus on my growth as a programmer.

Sadly, apart from movies, CODM remains the only other activity I engage in to pass the time.

Hey I was wondering if you happen to also have any knowledge about "Mental health discords" I recently joined one and it was awful. I'm terrified that those servers do waaay more harm then good and I wouldn't be surprised if the 2 I joined (I've left since and attempted to report them) already caused some peoples deaths.

If you have any knowledge about this could you please help me spread awareness on how dangerous these servers can be. they are also breeding grounds for predators.

Those discords put me in a very dark place twice where I honestly felt like letting go. It didn't help that I kept trying to help people they ignored or pushed away. They would say "We are just a venting server but have URGENT HELP channels for suicide pings. I confronted one and I have screenshots but they were just very ignorant and pretty much shut down every suggestion i made and opinion I shared with them.

They basically play therapist but deny it not matter how much evidence or proof you give them that its damaging if your not properly educated.

I dealt with a lot of highly toxic people on Discord. Snd I thought YouTube had the most toxic people because people in this platform are very rude to me as well.

I've had a good experience for the most part. However i use it for support groups to find others looking to better their lives.

That being said, even in the best of recovery communities on discord, we are not immune to trolls, and they can be very triggering and insulting. Discord can also be a sorce of doom and gloom if you're not careful (ie: misery loves company..., They relapsed so i guess i can too, etc.). Ive decided to shut down my own self-created discord server because I didnt feel like i could keep the community safe enough for the members of the community. Instead i decided to just keep to moderated forums instead.

It should be noted though, this is very common among many apps/programs and not just Discord. For instance, Zoom bombers. They aim to hurt and disrupt zoom calls with very personal and derogatory hits against the participants.

Thank you for the information though. Some of these facts are very eye opening. I know of a few people who are quite addicted to discord too. At least with videos like this, we can all be more informed when using this platform.

@ GameQuitters. DON'T GET POLITICAL PLEASE. Don't talk about conspiracy theories as if they're something dangerous that shouldn't be allowed, when everyone with any knowledge of history understands that the term "conspiracy theory" is just a fancy term for any thoughts or ideas that challenges the government or the mainstream media narrative. Conspiracy theories can be dangerous, but largely formulate from discussions that authoritarian governments despise us for having and challenge their authority. Understand that if you applaud censorship of quote "conspiracy theories" (which, if you pay attention to the different stuff that finally ended up in court, you will find that a large amount of "conspiracy theories" have been proven to be true, much to the dismay of petty tyrants who want nothing but to take every right from people that they have) then sooner or later that censorship will turn on you. When you give the government the power to discern what's right and what's wrong, then there is nothing to prevent them from declaring a lie to be called truth and a truth to become a lie in the pursuit of total power. As someone who came from an authoritarian regime (Nazi Poland and then communist Poland) and whose fathers died to defend the Polish people's rights, people in the Western world should be ashamed of themselves for applauding and supporting the destruction of their blood-paid rights all in the guise of public safety. I'm not sure if I'm trying to convert your personal judgement on the concept of narratives from complex global issues, or if I'm going on a historical-politcal rant. This comment is addressing only the first minute of two of this video. I have spoken. Thank you. :) I would also like to add that I've tried discord before and yeah...wouldn't recommend it. It kills your mind and wastes your time, not to mention I've never spoken to people with lower IQs.
