This patient had dermatomyositis! Most likely triggered by mono from EBV. Let me know if you'd like more videos like this in the future!

(Also fyi, small details have been changed in this case to protect anonymity)

This was fun. You should do more of these.

My nephew had a quadruple organ transplant at 10 months and a YouTube video helped us catch GVHD before his transplant team and before it got too out of pocket. It probably bought us all an extra year with him. Sometimes stuff like this can save lives or give families the gift of time.

If I was this patient I’d be elated that one of my doctors was educating medical/aspiring medical professionals on how to correctly diagnose my painful condition immediately. This is so important.

OMG! I have DM. CPK was 18, 800. I developed it after my marriage collapsed, I lost my job, and had the flu.

I was in hospital for 6 months, 500mg daily Prednisolone, 30mg weekly MTX, had 2 dvts & a pe, had to learn to walk and become independent. There are some things I can't do, and I'm occasionally unstable, but...well...still kicking!

Wow I'm glad she's doing well. Your followers should take a crack at my ongoing medical mystery since none of my docs can figure it out.

I had a medical mystery. After spending all my money with specialists due to syncope and bradicardia, along with stomach cramps, dehydration, vomit and non stop sweat, my psychiatrist discovered I was anorexic and that was causing me all those issues. The thing is no doctor thought of it because I am overweight 🥴 so I had to set eating alarms and I am doing much better I think

Wow you’re a GI Specialist. How do I pay for a consult? Lap Choli in ‘07. With a bad case of Pancreatitis. Rest,
Meds, etc.
4 Years go by with mild untreated IBS.
December 2011, I have my first child.
Spring 2012, out to lunch, ordered a salad. Food poisoning with 45 minutes of eating. I had horrible diarrhea for 28 days. This caused me to lose my job.
I went to the ER 3 times, they said there was nothing to do. Finally, my GP gave me lomotil, it stopped the diarrhea. Unfortunately, severe tummy cramping & bloating went of for 11 months! Horrible pains! They checked for Cdiff and general GI triggers, nothing.
2015/16 I start having horrible cramps and IBS issues. Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, nothing to report.
Dr’s try to help with symptoms, not root cause stuff. God Bless them, it’s America’s Medical System (with 2 excellent insurances btw) Creon, lomotil, hycosamine, to help so things down during meals. Worked a little. No really.
Fast forward to now. I have such bad pain with eating, I do it as little as possible. New symptom: sever uncontrollable nausea x2 weeks.

I have an appointment with GI again, in December, but not hopeful. There’s severely sick people in the word, so I hate complaining, but my husband and children need to me. I am pretty much useless to them.

This is actually insanely familiar. I had an extremely bad case of mono, last year, with a throat infection so bad it left multiple abscesses in my throat and tongue. It was later discovered I had a rheumatoid disorder after the mono calmed down. Pain and body aches everywhere.

I got mono then developed leukemia. My doctor says that’s a common thing he’s had but idk if it’s connected. Never looked into it.

My husband is a retired dermatologist, since about 2018 (he worked for nearly 40 years) and was VERY EXCITED; when I sent him a link to your diagnosis page (I’m only a nurse and had no idea what it was); anyway, he couldn’t wait to answer; I showed him how to answer - but in all honestly, he’s the computer guy here. Anyway, he very excitedly exclaimed; “I think it’s Dermatomyositis”

He came in the other room to tell me he posted his answer. So, of course I said “did you leave your name?” And he said “NO WAY! What if I got it wrong; I’ve seen 1/3 people in all of Buffalo, NY - I don’t want them to think I gave them wrong diagnoses!!!” Well, he was NOT wrong. And I proudly announce, that one of the correct responses was Joseph B. Neiman from Williamsville, NY.
