I thought I’d pin this comment to the top as this video seems to have caused all sorts of controversy and further comments can refer to this.
1) It’s my saw, I can do with it what I wish
2) I don’t take things personally, but I will stand up for myself especially if you are rude and offensive.
3) I have seen other woodworkers do the same, check out Paul Sellers & Bourbonmoth just as 2 examples.
4) I don’t film my life as I live it, so yes this video was staged. Yes I did use the wrong side for sawing this was a simple filming error. The video is just an example.
5) Doing this has really helped me learn how to use the saw, I don’t necessarily need to do this trick now
6) It’s just a video, maybe if you are so triggered by this you need another outlet for your negative energy.

Or just do what any saw user since the beginning of time has done and rub some wax on the blade edge and do some pull strokes to get a start line. Kids dont do drugs and dont wreck your saws.

i may not agree with doing this to a saw, but whatever works for you. also you get a pass cause i really needed that "love you" at the end lol

The trick my wood working teachure told me was to pull the saw back a few times till there's a small divit. Then go though the wood.

I have had a few of these saws, I never use the rough side because of this. They don't start very easily plus even when you get the cut started its no faster than the fine side.

I mean, I guess this is one way to do it, but you're so much better off just using forward strokes with the blade. Don't get mad at people calling out this video as foolish because really it's a weird way to solve your problem.

But again, your tools, your life. It doesn't really fuck up the blade that bad especially if you never really use that part for anything other than starting the cut.

I run the saw on the non cutting stroke a couple of times to set a groove so the saw don't wander but thats with a bigger cross cut saw, been wanting to try one of this style
