Gobnait O’Lunacy describes the trials of the twelve days of Christmas inflicted on him.

Gobnait O’Lunacy was a fictional character created by actor, writer, singer and entertainer Frank Kelly. The character had his origins in the RTÉ radio series ‘The Glen Abbey Show’.

The song ‘Christmas Countdown’ is a parody of the traditional ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’. The hapless Gobnait recounts the reality of receiving a present every day for the twelve days of Christmas from his beloved Nuala.

The delivery of a partridge in a pear tree gives an indication of what is to come, as Gobnait writes in his first thank you letter,

We’re getting the hang of feedin’ the partridge now...It bit the mother rather badly in the hand...

‘Home For Christmas’ was broadcast on 25 December 1983.

I didn't realise that Dermot Morgan and Frank Kelly had worked together before Father Ted.

I think I have this on a 7" vinyl record. Can't remember where I put it. I cry with laughter every time I hear it. The first time I ever saw Frank, it was on Halls pictorial weekly in the 70s when I was a kid. An amazing comedian. Funnier by miles than many comedians nowadays.

If this Father Jack was around, Jimmy Ranable would never have committed the Drumshanbo Massacre.
