Nicola Sturgeon accused of being ‘all over the place’ as she’s grilled over trans prisoner storm

The First Minister stumbled through a “car crash” interview in which she was quizzed on the furious backlash following the conviction of trans double-rapist Isla Bryson, who was originally sent to a women’s prison.
The case has led to SNP ministers temporarily banning all transgender inmates with violence against women convictions from the female estate.
It has also led to fresh demands for Ms Sturgeon to review her controversial trans self-ID law and tighten up protections for single-sex spaces.
Yesterday, in an interview with ITV, Ms Sturgeon was asked if she believes “all transwomen are women?”
Initially she claimed that this was “not the point we are dealing with” in relation to the prisons row, but added: “Transwomen are women but in the prison context there is no automatic right for a transwoman” before being interrupted.
She said: “There are circumstances in which a transwoman will be housed in the male prison estate because of the nature of the crime.”
Asked if women born women would ever be housed in a male jail, Ms Sturgeon said: “I don’t think there are circumstances there.”
It was then put to the FM, that therefore there were different rules for transwomen. She said: “Yes. There is a risk assessment process done for trans women that takes account of the nature of the crime, clearly significant concern arises out of sexual crime and whether it's appropriate for them to be in a female prison or a male prison.”
