One small point of fact. The Queen is not the owner of Windsor Castle. She privately owns Balmoral and Sandringham, Windsor Castle is, I believe, part of the portfolio of The Crown Estate.

My daughter and I were there a few months ago, and got the required photos of her either pushing the house over, or trying to stop it falling down. I remember the jewelry store as well from the first time I was at Windsor, about ten years ago. But I don't believe the tunnel story however; seems to coincidental that it would lead from the caste directly to a house that would have been so well known. Maybe a tunnel to the pub behind it instead!

Windsor is owned by the State, not the Queen. She has the right to use it for her whole lifetime.

On that guild hall, when Sir Christopher Wren designed it, the council thought that it needed more pillars to support it, so Wren was forced to alter the design😮. By way of getting his own back, and proving his design sound, the additional pillars stop short of the roof by 1” and still do, proving he was right!!

Another enjoyable post. I think I have seen this place before. I cannot believe how expensive it is. It would be wonderful if the story of the tunnel was true. It seems that councils haven't changed on some things being cheaply done. I would love to know what it looks like inside. Happy new year.
