"Getting better ... you can't describe the feeling. It's a drug."

That's right. It is a drug. It's the best drug available to us. Getting better at something is what brings us happiness. That's just how life was designed. That's how we were designed. If you acquire a skill that was hard for you to acquire, and that also has utility for other people, you've just won. You've unlocked the secret to life. It doesn't matter what that skill is. It can be whatever you want it to be. The ancient Greeks called it techne.

Breaks my heart.  Seeing kids/young adults having to break in gyms to get a workout.  I just feel like anyone who wants to workout should have the right to workout.

Back after 9 years & I remember being a kid watching this in high school. At the age of 25, I no longer play basketball but I apply the same work ethic to current business & I just want to thank you Devin, you showed me at a young age to work hard!! Shift team for life!!,

And the hard work did pay off. Look at where Dev's at now. I remember watching these videos when I was a junior in high school, and looking back on it now, Dev's come a long way since then. Keep grinding y'all...

Here's my journey in basketball:

3rd grade: Played on our 3rd grade team. I stole the ball once, dribbled down the court with it, and stopped in front of the basketball because I realized I didn't know how to do a lay-up.

8th grade: Didn't make the basketball team, was able to do lay-ups and developed some post moves.

Freshman year of college: Showed up to open gym every day, played point guard, was usually one of the better players, but still couldn't dominate.

Now, 3rd year in law school: I frequently get doubled teamed off of a screen or when I drive, which opens up passing lanes for me to drop dimes. If I don't get double teamed, I get buckets from inside, mid-range, and near-NBA-3-point range. I am usually one of the fastest guys on the court, and one of the best dribblers. This took many, many hours in the basketball gym. In the past 3 years, I've probably spent about 10 hours a week just playing basketball (either 5-on-5 full court or practicing dribbling/shooting on my own), and a few more hours a week weightlifting.

3 years ago, I was 170 pounds at 6'0", getting pushed around by bigger guys and though I was faster, my defenders would just push me to the ground every time I drove. Now I'm 190 pounds, and I can take the contact from guys 220 pounds+ and finish at the rim.

You gotta keep working, keep pushing, and put in the hours even if no one's going with you to the gym. If you want it, go get it.

This shows you hard work pays off. Ever since I was 8 I was trying to hoop. Kids would always be better than me. I tried out for my school and didn't make it. Then I continued to work towards my goal until I could beat my friends. With help from family and close relatives, I was able to develop my skills 10 fold. Now I am a starter for my highschool and the best Power forward on my team and I'm only 5'10. I believe in taking care of myself and Working hard towards my goals now. And both of those things can bring you a long way.
