Haydn is a unique case among composers, due to the high regard they had always for him. He lived a large part of his life under the patronage of the Hungarian family Esterházy, who employed him as head of orchestra in Eisenstadt. The contract established not only the rehearsal of the singers but also the composition for the delight of the prince Paul Anton. He produced symphonies, operas, string quartets, etc. First for that noble and then for prince Nikolaus. He composed more than one hundred works for an instrument that has already disappeared, the baryton, in which this prince was especially gifted. He latter became Kappelmeister of this nobleman. His symphonies began to be published in London, where he traveled with a businessman Peter Salomon after being dismissed by Nikolaus. He lived in this city about 18 months and wrote the symphonies with the same name as the city.He completed more than one hundred of this type of music and his oratories The Creation and the Seasons are celebrated. Haydn was a composer who falls between the Classical and the Romantic period.
The sound of this symphony is outstanding, although with an extraordinary harmony that characterizes the entire work of this musician, perhaps as the cause of his organized life and without major financial problems. The orchestra and the direction are superb. The music touches deeply and is a real marvel of composition. Viva Haydn and his magnificent music. Thanks for this recording that is sublime.

It's an amazing journey Haydn took in his life to give us the structures for future classical music. I feel nostalgia from him in this work. One day the world will appreciate him.

That was a complete joy. Reminds me of what I have missed so much.

Haydn is considered the father of the classical symphony and string quartet, and an innovator in the composition of piano sonatas and trios. It was Haydn's voice which first took him to Vienna to join the choir of St. Stephen's Cathedral. 0:13

Absolute brilliant work of art. I wonder if the musicians of the London Symphony roll their eyes at playing the London Symphony?

La dirección de J.E. Gardiner, siempre segura, confiable y de gran musicalidad, nos entrega una versión inspirada de esta gran sinfonía de F.J. Haydn. En instrumentos originales o con orquesta sinfónica como la LSO, el resultado es notable !

I particularly like this because it is such a great sound through my Bluetooth speaker.

Could it be that at JEG has -realised that modern instruments are far superior to “period” examples? I certainly hope so because this is such a great performance. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I would like to see Gardiner performing this wonderful work with his English Baroque Soloists with the vitality and verve with which he recorded Mozart's Symph. 38. It makes a lot of difference to the historically oriented perspective.

This great performance is totally ruined by the interruption of the music with ads. Why would the person who uploaded this not have the good sense to put the ads between movements, rather than interrupting a movement with an ad?!?

Why does menuet theme sounds like Croatian folk song from Burgenland: Oj Jelena, Jelena jabuka zelena?
